ASSOCIATIONS SYMBIOSIS TOPIC OF INTEREST

  There are, however, many other forms of coexistence between organisms, most of which are beneficial to one or both parties. We have already talked about parasitism and saprophytism referring to fungi, but there is also symbiosis, which consists of the prolonged, close and often fruitful association between different species. 

As an example we can mention the green algae that live in the interior of some protozoa, obtaining mobility and shelter, while their hosts take advantage of the excess of nutritious substances elaborated by the seaweed. The commensalism in another form of very common association in which, although only one of the parts benefits, the other is not harmed in any way by such coexistence.  

No other living creature can share with microbes in terms of ability to survive in the most inhospitable environments. They thrive not only in those places where it is reasonable for them to do so, but also in others where survival would be impossible for any non-microbial form of life.     

 In my next articles and post I will go up for the next occasion we will see and realize how the five groups of microorganisms live and feed, so that they can understand the importance they have in ensuring the continued circulation of essential elements for life on earth. I will also show you how different kinds of micro-organisms have adapted to life in society, in a more or less intimate way, with other living beings.
