Sorry for the excessive length of my posting. I wanted to get all of the details out there. Thanks for the reply. It seemed odd to lie and say that I was just minding my own business and someone rear ended me or to simply say nothing, so I didn't and now it is coming back to haunt me. I told the truth and am getting penalized for it. I certainly did not mean to cause another accident by avoiding another. My own kids were in the back seat. Why would I put them in danger of a rear end collision when the safer thing for them would've been for me to hit the person in front of me?
I will indeed ask my insurance company if I need a lawyer to deal with the citation issue or if it is all for nothing and that I should just pay the ticket. Part of paying the ticket though is admitting guilt to something that is not entirely correct on the citation or the accident report.
you can have them have one of their legal people at the insurance company talk to you.
Since you changed lanes it is not the other person's fault that hit you.
Basically, you needed to hit the person who cut you off.
Maybe they can put everything on the person you avoided. Did they get a ticket?
The same thing happened to someone I know.
The person I avoided hitting didn't get hit by me and much to my surprise, didn't hit the person in front of him. Everyone drove away. I thought there were at least 5 vehicles involved for sure. It turned out that it just ended up being me and the person who rear ended me.
Since you say you have some experience with this, it sounds like you may know my outcome already. I will call my insurance company in the morning and see if I can talk to someone about legal issues. Ugh. Thank you for your replies.
