The Humans of the Future.

in #life8 years ago

We have come a long way. From striking stones a hundred times, to striking a stick against a suitable surface to produce fire. From living in caves in the ground, to living in high-rise buildings as tall as the sky. Not only humans themselves have evolved, the technology they have has evolved as well. If you just for a moment focus on today's tech in comparison to the technology we had a hundred years ago, you'd be stunned.

When we think about the past, and be amazed at the almost ancient and "primitive" technologies, we cannot help but wonder about the future. It's natural of course. When there's talk of the past, there's also talk of the future.

Space is the most obvious answer, or at least the answer most people are likely to give you. After all, the achievements of the engineers over at SpaceX and NASA and Elon Musk himself have not gone unnoticed. SpaceX and NASA are hard at work to get us to Mars by 2030s. So colonizing the solar system could also be one answer.

But I am not talking about where humans would be in the future. There could be many answers to this question, each containing a hint of possibility due to the boundaries our technology is crossing right now. I am saying what would a future "human" be like?

If we assume the possibility of humans colonizing the solar system, or even colonizing the Moon or Mars, their bodies could be a bit different due to living and growing up in low gravity. Interestingly, the design of the six-month rotation of astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) also reflects the time it would take to reach Mars. This displays the physiological and psychological changes the crew en route to Mars would experience. The changes vary from osteoporosis (which causes bones to become weak and brittle) to muscular atrophy and other cardiovascular changes. These changes are almost the same as one would experience on the planet of Mars. The gravity on the Martian surface is about 38% of the gravity on the surface of Earth. When the astronauts come back to Earth from ISS they experience trouble standing up, they also feel dizziness.

But what about the people still living on Earth?

Trans-humanism is an interesting movement that I did not get to know until only very recently. Since I was a child, I have always thought that the idea of one getting "enhanced implants" that extend one's abilities or make him immortal would be pretty awesome, despite how impossible and sci-fi it may sound. Agelessness and immortality, while they may be cool, are impossible today. If you look at the development in technology we've had since 1917, one could think that we evolve even further than we have imagined by 2117.

Humans are indeed adaptable but change isn't accepted immediately by everyone.

The philosophical consequences, the effect that the idea of being immortal would have on the beliefs of people would be just enormous. Entire religions are based around judgement after death. If you can't die in the first place, then what's the point?

While more "modest" augmentations or implants such as for eyesight or hearing might not be that far away, in fact they are already here. It is really hard to speculate about technology, because slowly we are reaching the limits that the laws of the universe have set, limits which cannot be crossed. There are tons of factors involved, but hey everything's possible within the realm of imagination so why don't we go back there for a moment?

Genome editing is also a thing I would like to discuss. Not so long ago, gene-editing was very, very expensive and was thought to be impossible. It has a massive amount of applications which include eradicating diseases and human enhancement. CRISPR is a revolutionary system which I am sure you have heard of. Due to CRISPR, the costs of engineering have reduced by 99%! In 2015, scientists used CRISPR to cut out the HIV virus from living cells. Human trials for CRISPR are already underway, and soon it is possible that using CRISPR we may be able to cure cancer.

Gene-editing could be used to cure genetic diseases too, and not only that it could be used to make sure that the baby inherits best traits of it's parents. Thereby almost making it "superhuman". Many people have their reservations about it, but whatever your views on this subject may be, it could potentially affect you. Modified humans could alter the entire gene-pool of humanity by passing on their genes to their children who may in turn do the same, thus potentially changing the human race gradually.

So what would the humans of 2117 be like? Society and culture also seems to have an impact, and who knows what their culture might be like. There is no single correct answer to this question. Everything I have wrote above could be true, all at once. Or it could be the opposite. But let's not think about that. Let's hope for the best.

It's crazy how much closer we're moving into a completely digital age in which everything is completely computed. Those of you who have art majors will benefit those most because once u get those computed answers you're able to find innovative ways to implement them into our society great article by the way come check out my page

The speed at which we are entering the digital-age is pretty mind-boggling. I don't know how long it would until a computer/smartphone becomes a basic life necessity but I think that it will be pretty soon because the amount of utilities it has. I will check out your profile for sure, thanks.

One thing i know for sure is that the semantics will change in the year 2117.someone speaking English then will not understand our English unless they are historians and so gies for most languages. I would also hope an accelerated technology much like the computer age (pc has been around for like 35 yea s and see how much it has fueled interms of change) will emerge and take humanity several folds ahead of what we predict at this moment.

For now whatever we predict might be exaggerated or the opposite.

For now whatever we predict might be exaggerated or the opposite.

Yes definitely.

English has evolved a lot so I wouldn't be surprised if they speak a different "version" of it in the future. Thanks for the comment!

Wow that's deep, following...

Lets just hope in a 100 years, we broke our big-government-debt-shackles and be a free people once more.

~Blockcain could do this!

Augmented Intelligence is our likely evolutionary future ^_^

Great post infintor. Upvoted and following..

Good read. You deserve a:

Great Perspective!!!!!
I often think of 20 years form now this will be a completely different world!!!
Wow..
Technology has evolved so much that all we have to do now is just be.
I mean they have Robots cooking our food now at McDonald's.
Automatic Cars are driving us..
Right...
and before we thought email was the craziest and Simplest thing!!!!
Watch 20 years from now...
This will be a whole new Planet.
It'll hard to differentiate between a human and a Robot.
Look at the Sex robots that's coming out now...
Wild!!!
Lets see what's gonna happen.
Stay Human my Friend!

Hahaha technology brings a lot of weird stuff too like sex bots. I'm anxious to see what the future holds for us. Thanks for the comment my friend.

great stuff
