The Magic of Focus

in #life7 years ago (edited)

I always say that magic is just science that's poorly understood. So what's the "science" behind the incredible manifestation magic of simple mental and emotional focus?

Well first note that I said "mental AND emotional focus." Too often people think of focus only in terms of mental concentration. That's incredibly important, particularly because what we're thinking about tends to have a very powerful effect on how we feel, but by itself it isn't enough.

The level that manifestation is really coming from is the level of how we're sort of vibrating, our resonant frequency, if you will.

To dig more deeply into what is meant by that, consider one definition of "resonance."

Intensification and prolongation of sound, especially of a musical tone, produced by sympathetic vibration.... Resonance frequencies are the natural frequencies at which it is easiest to get an object to vibrate.

Why we tend to get the same results again and again

To translate these physics terms into manifestation terms, whatever is your natural frequency, the one you vibrate at most often and without having to even think about it, that's what is amplifying like vibrations around you. It's also what most easily gets amplified in you by others, even when you're trying to cultivate a specific vibe.

You're getting more of what you're putting out, because you're amplifying precisely that note in everyone around you and most easily picking up on that note in others.

The Implications

What we want of course is to get more of what we want and less of what we don't want. In order for that to happen, we need to attune our vibration to feelings that match the things we want.

How do you know what your current vibration is and whether you need corrective "vibration work?" Well what do you have? Whatever you have and however that feels, THAT'S your current vibration.

If you want something different, you're going to need to focus it into existence.

By "focus" I mean you're going to have to make concentrated effort at achieving the vibe you want and not continuing to increase the vibe you don't want more of. How?

  1. Improve your powers of concentration with something like concentration meditation practice (counting from 1 to 10 repeatedly, or counting breaths, or staring at a point in the sky).
  2. Become really attuned to noticing how your thoughts are making you feel and understanding what feelings go with the things you want in your life. Until you have the ability to discern this, there is no way you can progress with the next step.
  3. Commit yourself to using that concentration to focus on thoughts that bring good feelings and redirect your mind away from thoughts that bring discordant feelings. (Yes, while you're in this retraining period you are going to have to give up the idea of improving anything using your intellect. The good news is that you can be used as a part of things improving without your intellect having to direct it. Your intuition is actually better at the job. But you'll sacrifice THE IDEA of how important you are to the cause, whatever cause that might be. Don't worry; it's only temporary while you work on cultivating a different default vibe.)

That's it. It's that simple to use your power of focus to more easily attract people, situations, and events that lead to your life filling up with feelings you really want to be feeling. With that tends to go the things and experiences that you want, because the reason you want any of that is because you believe it's going to make you feel good. It all just flows together, as a self-reinforcing system that cycles on and on, with one good thought and feeling after another.

Eventually you'll get so that even when you do need to rendezvous with situations, people or things that are extremely unfavorable, you'll still just naturally maintain a good mood. You may notice that previously it would bother you, but it just doesn't anymore. You'll find amusement (or at least peace) in the misfortunes of life, as you simply focus on doing what must be done to address the situation at hand.

This is emotional mastery, and with it comes a type of manifestation mastery too. When you can maintain your good vibe even when all hell is coming at you, it's just a matter of time before you get to milk the blessing out of even the bitterest medicine. Then even "bad" things have a tendency to directly lead to even better things than ever before. And that's a darned good life.

Resteems always appreciated!

I like to think "How would I feel if I was the person I wanted to be, if I had the life I wanted to lead? How would I speak, what habits would I have, etc, etc" Then I send out that attitude as best I can :)

This is a great little lesson

What a cool set of questions to ask oneself. You always have such a refreshing perspective. Thanks so much for stopping by.

Resteemed, shared to my facebook and business page, upvoted and following!! This explains everything I have been working to explain to various people in my life !

I'm glad it is helpful. I've shared it with a bunch of folks as way of breaking it down for them too. It can be hard to make the connection between reason and the way these unseen things work.

Oh definitely, I tried to explain this to people, but sometimes people just need to physically see it in front of their own eyes first written because they are too distracted to process spoken word!

Hey @indigoocean, so what do you do when you're just having a bad day & feeling awful?

Try to focus on happy stuff? (:

To some extent, yes, but it has to go beyond that at some point. Sometimes that's enough, but often when it's one bad thing after another, the mind eventually gives out in its ability to write a better story about what's going on. That's when you have to pull out "the big guns" and forget about re-storying your experience. That's when all that's left is an unconditional, "yes."

Now yes doesn't mean, "I like this and want more of it." Yes can exist in a field of "I choose something different." What it carries with it though is the magic of, "Okay, so this is what's happening."

It's the end of the war against the present moment. In that cease fire we discover that we can actually be with a great deal of unpleasantness without that meaning we having to feel bad. We can see our child lying on the ground, not breathing, after the accident, and simply focus on the application of CPR. We can be in NYC for 9/11, and simply make one's way home. We can be with any manner of "horror" and find the peace of simply doing what needs doing without stories about it.

That is liberation.

Thank you @indigoocean, appreciate you taking time to respond (':

So if I'm getting you correctly, we should just remain in the NOW? And not fight or resist it?

It's a question of where you really are now. You can't fake this, so it does no good to act as if you're at a different point than your skill level is really at.

At first, the task is simply to redirect the mind. When you start generating a negative vibe you notice and redirect yourself. You do lots of pattern interrupts.

But this is only going to take you so far. It will be enough for the simple inconveniences of daily life not to send you into a negative spiral, so life will start getting better, but sometimes you're still going to be struck by tragedy or at least extreme disappointment. Such is life.

In those times, either you've developed enough skill in choosing your emotions at will so that you can be with whatever is arising from a place of equanimity, or you haven't. If you have, great. You are able to surf the waves of the ocean no matter how choppy they are, and it's always a fun ride, just to be riding. If not though, then okay, you're going to experience suffering. And that's okay too.

You do what you can do when you can do it, and don't beat yourself up for not being able to run before you can walk. You know that if you just keep putting one foot in front of the other, no matter how many times you fall down, one day you will run.

Focusing your effort is really the way in which everything manifests into reality. Even a seed that needa to burst from its shell requires focus to grow. Thank you for this useful technique

Thanks for stopping by and glad this had meaning for you.

There are lots of things going on around us. And you have a lot of options. If you want to do something, you have to focus on that. Focus is the key to get things done successfully.

Thank you so much @indigoocean for sharing this. Hope you will find my posts interesting as I found yours.
