In a largely competitive world a professional at times finds it difficult to forsee and grab hold of opportunities as they open up. The race for the same opportunities is so highly intense that if he doesn't hustle and make a frantic pitch he will lose the chance for advancement. Life is hectic for people, the day-in-day-out grind can take it's toll on the person who doesn't have the ability to withstand the onslaughts of modern day living.

Stress management is necessary to combat the excessive demands of our time, which in actuality will increase with the passage of time. An executive has to put in a long day at work, his week-ends are crowded with seminars and brainstorming sessions just to learn new aspects of the field. Doctors today are falling victim to the very lifestyle diseases that they are treating.

I feel we are facing this tremendous pressure not because of the rampant competition, but because we are aping one paradigm of our profession or business as the only accepted way to success. Though creativity and individuality are very much part of our personal lives, as we like to individualize our homes and we have unique hobbies. But what is missing is that we do not tend to individualize our work habits and patterns at the office. I'm not saying that we should do away with Standard Operating Procedures, as they are essential for smooth functioning. However, many of us have not added anything significant in it and have just followed the system. There is innate potential in everyone of us to contribute to the betterment of our work processes.

Additionally, many of us possess the talents to open our own businesses, but we want to play it safe, and thus, stay in the same rut just for the simple reason that it is predictable and comfortable.

Comfort zones are actually discomfort zones as they gradually start numbing a persons creativity, spontaneity, sense of self-worth and much more. They slowly make a person complacent and as a result, growth of the person, society and economy at large suffers. A country suffers in the long run as so much human potential gets wasted.

I feel people must really look within themselves to see the true potential locked inside. Once this comes to light, they must plan to take baby steps towards the goals planned.

It's high time that people bring about a positive change in the area of work and professionalism, this will give a strong sense of fulfillment. We are made to realize our true gifts and talents and then use it for the greater good of mankind.

As this happens we will be creating a better environment of holistic growth and we will also find that doors of better opportunities open for us as well as for others.
