As a backpacker and workawayer, I do not expect to meet celebrities or anyone from an upper class background. Or people from "alta syudad" as we call it poor people. Haha!
Hearing someone talk in Tagalog excites me, especially when you don't use it that often anymore by being on the road. So last night, while I was sitting at the lounge of the hostel I currently stay at as a volunteer, I heard two ladies talking in TagLish. I immediately approached them with, "Hello po, Filipino po kayo, yes?".
So we chatted for a bit and agreed to meet up the next day to go to the waterfalls since I mentioned of going there because it'd be my off.
I was supposed to rent a scooter, but they told me to not even bother. The two ladies called uber and we hiked to the Seven Wells. I could see from the way they talk, mostly English, that they're not "backpackers" but I was really shy to ask questions, cautious of not offending them because my jokes are so sometimes rude. Ahaha!
While we were swimming on the waterfalls, Georgie asked me if I ever watch TV or watch Filipino programs. Told her I'm not into TV and haven't watched any Filipino shows for a long time except for few movies. I remember her last name on FB when I added her was DIAZ. Looking at her, seeing the resemblance, I burst out, "wait what, are you from that family of Gloria Diaz? The 1969 Miss Universe? Mom of Isabelle Daza?". She humbly said yes, and my jaw literally dropped in surprise. OMG. Haha!
It was a first time and didn't even think that I would be hanging out with someone related with celebrities. The two ladies were so much fun, humble and unbelievably generous. I was able to visit the Seven Wells comfortably and even had a lunch to one of the expensive resorts in Langkawaki, Malaysia. Not only that but I also received a lovely sarong as a gift and a treat to Salon (ended up of not getting it tho coz it would take time).
And that's how my New Year went.
