I am ASHAMED of my country. Period.

Malaysia, a beautiful country where multiracial people could live in peace and harmony.

Malaysia, a hub for food lovers to explore the vast cuisine delight from local to international and for enthusiast travelers to have an adventure they are searching for.

Malaysia, the land I where was born and raised and proud of.

But for the last decade, I have grown tire and ashamed of Malaysia.
It is not the Malaysia that I have loved and known.

Especially after ridiculous incident that had happened on Sept 3, 2018. I have run out words to convey how ashamed I am of my country. After all the nonsense shenanigans that had happened here in the previous decade, this...this event adds one more thing on the Malaysia's wall of shame.

What happened on Sept 3 you asked?

After reading several more articles and comments about this humiliating event, I have come to a conclusion that, Malaysia has become just like Russia and those middle east countries, that are utterly homophobic and downright inhuman to its own citizen, especially those who are LGBT.
(FYI, I have nothing against Russia, the issue I am talking is about how the majority people in Russia can be such homophobic till they commit violence on LGBT people. Please correct me if I am wrong.)

Yes, in Malaysia, being LGBT is not tolerated well here and same-sex relation is considered a crime under Islamic law.
(Although, non-Muslim foreigners could get away with...somewhat.)

Even one of the judge (Syariah Court Judge Kamalruazmi Ismail ) had the nerve to say this:~
"Under syariah (law), caning is not meant to hurt or torture the offender. May this sentence be a lesson and reminder to all Muslims and show that Syariah punishment is meant to educate and not cause pain,” he said.

Are you seriously kidding me??
You are hurting them, not only that, you are humiliating them! FACEPALM!!!
How is this even called "educating"?

It is such a contrast between how Malaysia is portrayed in the medias (all those good stuffs to attract tourists and such), when in reality...it is not as pretty as it seemed to be. This situation makes me feel safer among the laid-back LGBT people rather than the backward thinking conservatives that have a tendency to violence, when they really are against something.

This country has been getting worse up to the point that it allowed child marriage to happen but fail to conduct its Islamic law in a less archaic way.
I mean come on, this is 2018, not 1800s.

I feel very sorry to both of the women. I really wish the court had handled the case better in a more mature way..but with the current backward mentality that still exist here, they picked "public caning" as the way to handle the situation.

I shall end my article with a quote from Thilaga Sulathireh, from the group Justice for Sisters:~

‘It’s a regression of human rights in Malaysia. It’s not about the severity of the caning. Corporal punishment is a form of torture regardless of your intention,’ she said.
