I noticed this trend even before making my first post here. Begging for upvotes (likes) and follow is not peculiar to Steemit, as I have seen this on facebook, twitter, Instagram and other social media. I can never understand begging on these platforms as more likes and followers add nothing of value to my life but only help in growing the empires of the owners (except of course if I am using the account for marketing).
Begging for upvotes or follows on Steemit is a bit understandable as you are begging for monetary values but still annoying. Steemit is meant to be a platform that rewards you for adding value in form of writing a good content, taking a cool photograph or making a nice video. I know it can be 'hit your head against the wall' frustrating to put efforts into creating contents that nobody is upvoting or no much followers to upvote or resteem it. I have had my fair share of that and I still do but that does not make begging is right.

I am not totally devoid of blame.I also begged for upvotes in my first few days here as I thought it was a norm since a lot of people are doing it. A lot of folks still don't see nothing wrong in begging because this what they met joining Steemit. This act can hurt the community and the way it is perceived. Again Steemit is meant to be a reward system for the values and how your contents resonate with people and not how much you beg for upvotes or worship the whales.
Before begging for upvotes and follows hurt the community, it hurts you first - it hurts your identity and your rewards especially if you are in this for the long haul.
Here are the few ways begging for upvotes and follows can affect you.
It crashes your reputation and I am not talking of the number in front of your name but how you are perceived. What comes to mind immediately your username appears... Oh that upvotes beggar!
It reduces the value of your posts. You can put a lot of efforts into making a post and people will perceive it as shitty just because you are begging.
The chance that people get you to removed after following is high. Like most people I want my feed to contain posts that resonate with me. If your posts don't interest Me, I will likely remove you later though you begged me into following you.
I noticed people only get the chance to beg planktons and minnows that will upvotes their posts of few cents..birds of a feather, right? Begging whales will probably get you flagged, they most times upvote or follow you out of their convictions or liking your works.
In a nutshell, you get a lot to lose but few cents to gain from begging for upvotes and follows.
It is important to add that there are a lot of groups with #postpromotion on discord, telegram, whatsapp and others that you can drop your links. Post your links in as many as you can but please don't beg.
Thank you for reading.
Don't forget to upvote to encourage the writer, resteem for others to benefit and comment to share your thoughts.
Very good observation, bro. Nothing beats a good impression and a character to add with it. Begging will only result to more begging. There is nothing wrong in promoting posts by telling people what they stand to gain or benefit from it. But not begging for just upvote.
Create an identity, a good one ofcourse and the rest will take care of itself. And yea..Post promotion is a way to more exposures. Thank you for stopping by bro.

Yes I accept. Thank you
You know, I actually engaged a guy who was using copy/paste spam on my posts to beg for upvotes. He was new and admitted he didn't know how the system work, but he appeared to want to. I sent him off in a different direction, and I see that he's making some of his own posts now, so I followed him. :)
I just wanted to share that because it is possible to reform some spammers. Who knew?
It is possible and that is the one of the purposes of this post. Thank you for affecting someone positively and for your contribution.
I don't agree less. Upvoted, following and resteemed.
Thank you for everything.
Begging for votes suck! Upvoted, following and resteemed too!
That's the way i see it too. I appreciate your been here.
I think this needs to be said here often. Like someone said steemit is not a day job. If you are consistent enough you will get there rather than have you reputation soiled. Nice article
Nice to see a lot of people share the same view. Thank you.
I agree totally with you. I haven't asked, or begged, for upvotes for any of my articles and I never will. If I get no upvotes I just have to swallow my pride and carry on producing articles that will hopefully add some value to the Steem community. It's all about quality and relevance, and that's what I base my upvotes. Cheers for a great article.
You have the right mindset already better that when I started. Then I would put a link in postpromotion and ask or beg people in the room to upvote. Though I never did one on one begging but any form begging should be discouraged. Thank you for reading.
Who has begging really helped on this platform. Its more like a call to get flagged. Craft a good post and people will be ready to upvote.
Hehe...Nobody. You are so on point. Thank you.
add value and the rewards eventually are going to come to you.
Gbam! When you see or hear that, it means you said it all.
Thank you for your short but meaningful contribution. I appreciate it.
Brilliant post. I fell in to traps of thinking that you had to follow all your followers. Your feed turns to pap. If someone replies to a post with a good thought out comment, I'll check them out. I'll follow if their posts are quality. That's the only reason.
You definitely can't follow all your followers, just those that blog posts interest you.
Quality comments help a lot. Like you said it makes people take note of you and check out your blog to see if you are worth following.
Thank you @mr-neil. I appreciate your contribution.
I completely agree - I've even gone so far as pledging to not use bots this year to really focus on organic growth versus paid growth. Yes, my earnings have stunted a little bit but I think with time it will drastically improve.
That's one of the things I love about Steemit... Doing the right thing and working hard pay off eventually, there are good guys here watching.
Thank you @liverehab
True that. I hate vote begging with a passion! Almost at the same level of I hate shit posts who are just placeholders for bid bots.
There is one rather pathetic group that even asks its members to use surpassinggoogle as one of teh five tags so that their post will get votes from him.
It's just pathetic and they go on saying that they are so great and being supported by a whale. Just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Tagging and mentioning the whales at every opportunity is another way of begging.
It gladdens my heart, there are people here that don't like cutting corners and are ready to work their socks off to succeed.
Thank you for your wonderful contributions.
I must admit that knowing self-promotion is not only selfish, but shows a greed that is definitely not respectable, has helped me to avoid begging. I have been tempted, because I am now spending 2-3 days creating one post and it's only natural to feel your work deserves more appreciation. The fact is, SteemIt is a professional quality platform and it takes time and effort to gain a good reputation. This is exactly as it should be. Posts like yours need to come out every day, so the message doesn't get lost. If we allow begging, the platform would be no better than annoying spam.
You are an observer but most reason why people join steemit is cos of rewards even me but when I got here I realize if I had that in mind, I would not get known by what I do so I took it away from mind and expect replies from different people from different countries
Most of us came in because of the reward. But you will do well on the long run if things are done the right way and consistently.
Thank you for reading, hope to see you around more.
I hate begging and I have never asked for upvote or follow exchange. I ask for upvotes but I say "If you like my posts don't forget to follow and upvote". It's with condition, if you enjoyed my writing please upvote it will encourage me to write more and more.
We all should encourage good writers and commenters because that's core part of our community. Don't you agree @golddeejay?
Yes, I do leave a message for people to upvote me and that was after they must had read the 'quality' content I provided.
Definitely good content provider should encourage but asking someone to upvote a post I have not read or does not interest me is the issue here.
Thank you for your contribution @asolopreneur
Asking votes for low (zero) quality with earning intention is begging. Asking votes for high quality posts with networking purpose is part of appreciation.
New users also forget that all the begging and other embarrassing, cringe-worthy, self-promoting behaviors are getting committed to the block-chain FOREVER.
Unlike other social platforms there's no muting or deleting past bad behavior. Your record is PUBLIC FOREVER.
Exactly. Image and identity are at stake here.
Thank you for that perspective.

true words bro
Thank you bro
but is true word but why will you not up vote even when the post is recommendable, and upvote is free. let's be sincere nobody who don't need upvote and no body don't need money, no pretends just saying my mind...please upvote people is free
No, upvotes are NOT free.
(1) Each time we vote, we lose about 2 percent of our Steem Power, and that takes a couple of hours to get back. We can't vote more than about 10 to 12 times a day, or we risk losing so much power that the value goes down a lot. So we have to conserve our votes, and that's tough because there are so many good posts here on Steemit to vote on.
(2) We could just be selfish and vote on our own comments to earn the money from the vote. By voting on somebody else, we're giving up the money we could just give to ourselves. In that way, it is also not free.
Still, I understand that it's tough to gain attention when you're new and don't have a lot of followers or a strong upvote.
You're so nice for commenting on this post. For that, I gave you a vote!
We all need upvotes but you won't get good upvotes by asking for it. Create posts that has value and all you have to do is #postpromotions and you will get upvoted. Your upvoting weight reduces every time you upvote. People would rather spend their upvotes on good relevant post than shitty posts.
Good post, I am a photographer, it passes for my blog and sees my content, I hope that it should be of your taste :D greetings
Thank you
I really like your posts.
I will follow you
I appreciate that.
Great post
well than you probably shouldn't click on this link https://steemit.com/creative/@wearetheshow/theater-of-death-macabre
because it goes to an awesome video that you definitely shouldn't resteem or upvote ;)
And don't you dare follow me for unique original content!!!
Great post it made for a good read but I'm fairly new to steemit and havent experienced much begging as such. By begging do you mean people sending messages specifically asking for upvotes or would you consider a sentence like "If you liked this blog please give me a follow and an upvote and keep in touch for future blogs" would you consider this begging or just trying to encourage people to read your work?
Oh and how do i find the post promotion thing on discord? are there many different groups to post in?
