Abortion...something you might not have considered.

in #life8 years ago (edited)

The abortion rate in the United States fell to its lowest level since Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision legalized abortion nationwide.

Either this is because of the continued restrictions on abortions (what the republicans believe) or it's better access to pregnancy prevention for women(what the democrats believe).

I don't care which side of the coin you fall on but I want to show you two pieces of info and have you think about it yourself.

First let's look at Netherlands: The abortion rate there is 9.7 per 1000 women. This is better than America...even today.

In Netherlands: a reduction of unwanted pregnancies has been accomplished through successful strategies for the prevention of teenage pregnancy (including sex education, open discussions on sexuality in mass media, educational campaigns and low barrier services) as well as through wide acceptance of sterilization.

Second: Donohue–Levitt hypothesis suggests that crime rate across America fell because abortion was legalized.

"The authors argue that states that had abortion legalized earlier should have the earliest reductions in crime. Donohue and Levitt's study indicates that this indeed has happened: Alaska, California, Hawaii, New York, Oregon and Washington experienced steeper drops in crime, and had legalized abortion before Roe v. Wade. Further, states with a high abortion rate have experienced a greater reduction in crime, when corrected for factors like average income."

Of course, I know I know, this is correlation not causation.

So I get it, you hate abortion, you hate the idea of a "baby" being killed off, you hate the women who do it...but I am promising you that women who don't want babies but somehow end up pregnant (rape, broken condom, lack of contraceptives etc) will figure how to get abortions (coat hangers anyone?).

There are legal contraception and sterilization options available to all in Netherlands and still there are 9.7 abortions happening per 1000 women!

Federal dollars already don't pay for abortions at Planned Parenthood. So your hate directed at them is only getting rid of all the things (ie contraceptives) that keep women FROM getting pregnant.

I mean lets think a bit here: it's not like if a woman shows up at a Planned Parenthood asking for contraceptives, they usher her out and tell her to come back after she gets pregnant!

Finally, as a cherry on top...go ahead, defund planned parenthood, then in 18 years don't complain when you see a sharp rise in crime rates too.

Can't wait to read the responses to this one.

Sort:

History showed already anything what becomes/is legal, does not stop people from doing what is illegal; it will only be done in secret with all the negative consequences attached to it.

I truly believe abortion should be legal; as euthanasia should be; as any form of drugs should be (from the accepted and allowed tabacco and alcohol to all the variants that are usually declared illegal).

So yes, USA shall take The Netherlands as an example.

YES TO WOMEN'S FREEDOM OF CHOICE!
YES TO ABORTIONS!
And to the people who don't agree (especially men) : A big and honest middle finger up
