I hate being slave to something I don't even care about just so I can pay the bills. It doesn't seem right to me either. For this reason I quit my last job a month ago so I can have access to the air. I got choked up having a bully for a boss, will you believe I didn't get paid for the month I left and each time I call he does not answer the phone.
Reading through your experience, I loved every word "you expressed the feeling g of a lady who is comfortable under her own skin" I really do like it and would love to read through more of your post.

Oh my goodness @gloree this rattles my bones! That's exactly the kind of crap that is going on that just isn't right! You should not have to go through that to get the money you are owed... I'm sorry. Unfortunately, that's just a symptom of the system that is broken. I really hope he eventually decides to come around, have a second heart and give you your money!
On the other hand... congrats for setting yourself free! I'm not sure what you mean about having access to the air, I'm curious though... do tell!
I'm only this way now and let me tell you, it's still a process that I work on everyday but I'm happy and thankful to be able to share the experience here! I hope to inspire a little along the way ;)
