What an Auspicious day ; Lord Krishna's birthday and India's Independence Day on the same day

Above is the rangoli which my mom made

Today couldn't have been more auspicious for India. This is when India got independence and the Lord Krishna was born.

Happy Janmashtami! While all the states in the North are getting together to commemorate Lord Krishna's Birthday, South India is also celebrating it with much fervour. From Andhra Pradesh to Kerala, all the states in the South are preparing themselves for the festivities. Also known as Gokulashtami or Sri Krishna Jayanti,

As Krishna was born at midnight, people stay awake all night and offer prayers. Devotees sing devotional songs, dance to Krishna Bhajan and rejoice. Readings of Bhagvad Gita, the Hindu religious scripture, are also held at several temples.

Located at 11km North of Mathura, Vrindavan is another place you must visit to witness a beautiful celebration. Vrindavan is where Krishna spent his childhood stealing butter and people’s hearts. Janmashtami celebrations in Vrindavan begin ten days prior to the date of Janmashtami. Ras Leelas are performed on this day. Temples perform various aarti and pooja to worship Krishna. The whole town becomes alive with the sound of bells and bhajans. Devotees from all over the world visit the holy town of Vrindavan on Janmashtami.

INDEPENDENCE DAY

In India, Independence Day is celebrated by the people of all religions, cultures and traditions with great joy and happiness. Independence Day in India is observed on 15th of August every year from 1947 as our country became independent on the same day

Each and every Indian celebrate his/her freedom in their own way such as decorating their places of celebration, raising National Flag, march past, watching favorite movies, dancing in the streets, singing National Anthem or patriotic songs or participating in many social activities organized at public places. Independence Day is celebrated by the government of India every year when the current Prime Minister of India raises out tricolor national flag at the Red Fort in Delhi followed by Indian army parade, march past, National Anthem recitation, speech and other cultural activities.

i went on to see the parade .we got free passes as my father is on defense ;-)

Wishing you all this all Auspicious day .
