Subic Bay has so much potential but still a long way to go. Subic was a Important Navy Base during WWII.

Getting to Subic

You can take a bus from Manila or Angeles City. We came from Angeles it took about an hour and a half by bus. Victory Liner bus cost less than 300 pesos for two people. There are tourist bus options from Angeles direct to your hotel that cost 500 per person and higher.

We took a tricycle over to the bus station and the bus left within 10 minutes of us getting on board. We really didn't know what time the buses leave for Subic. We have been lucky in the past just showing up and asking the attendant. I encounter rude porters before so I am hesitant to use porters now. The bus terminal for Baloy Bay Subic is the Olongapo City bus terminal. The bus ride take us 1 hour and half. We search Google Maps for “bus terminal” and we usually get the right one.
If it's your first time like mine scenery is interesting and I spent most of the trip with my eyes outside the window.

Once we arrived in Olongapo City there were tricycles and taxis. We decided to take a taxi because it was raining off and on. A 15-minute trip took 45 minutes because of a traffic accident that blocked the road for a while. We were glad we had chosen the taxi instead of the tricycle. We spent 30 mins in traffic and it would be hard to be in a tricycle next to big trucks breathing pollution while stopped on the side of the road. The private taxi fare is 350 pesos direct to your hotel.

Blue Rock Dive Resort

We checked in to Blue Rock Beach Resort which looks a bit rough from the road but is actually quite nice once you get inside. We were a couple hours early so we had to wait for the room to be cleaned and prepared. We sat at Blue Rock restaurants directly on the beach. The restaurant had great WiFi. Probably the best or second-best WiFi we have had in the Philippines. We run the internet speed test and this is probably the high numbers we saw from all of the hotels we tried speed testing. We are very happy at Blue Rock because of the internet. We uploaded a 10GB of video in less than 30 mins.

Once the room was clean we checked in. We chose a room in the back of the hotel for the price. We were happy with our choice. The room overall was very good if a bit retro 70s style. Our room had a mirror on the ceiling so you can watch yourself …. sleep? One of the things I do for fun inside the room is hide when he is in the bathroom taking a shower. Then he has to find me :) I like having a big room with lots of cabinets. It makes hiding eaiser.

The day before we will check out the air-conditioned was leaking a lot onto the floor. So we took a couple towels that the maid had hanging outside to dry. We use these to catch the water that was dropping every second from the AC. It's not a big deal we don't call any maintenance to fix it. They will probably fix it after we leave.

The Blue Rock Resort also has a dive center if you are interested.

We took a walk on the road parallel to Baloy Long Beach. There were quite a few small apartments with rooms for rent in the area. Take a look to this properties for sale. Some of them are also beach view. There is a few cheap places for rent with ocean view. I've seen properties that looks abandoned and no one taking care of it. We saw a public beach that has goats and dogs with broken Nipa Huts. We then cut back on to the beach to walk back to our hotel.

We had to walk out to the main road to find a laundry shop. We found the laundry shop about 10 to 15 mins walk from Blue Rock Resort. The resort has a laundry service that charges per piece. The laundry shop on the main road charges 29 pesos per kilo. The laundry shop wasn't not on the maps. It is located across the road from Western Union sign. It was named CJT Bubbles Wizard.
On the way back from the laundry we found a fruit stand and bought bananas at 70 pesos per kilo. There are a few fruits and snacks that are available.

Subic is good place getaway from Manila.
