Taking Trevor, my dad's best friend, to the vet.

This is Trevor.

My dad's best friend.

You might have seen him interrupt my vlogs from time to time.

Even though he passed the age of 12 he's still pretty active.

Sadly this year for two times in a row he got an ear infection.

Most likely caused by swimming which he still likes to do. (not sure why he never got it before...maybe age has something to do with it?)

We have these 'sour' drops we have to put in his ear that do a pretty good job but it still creeps up.

The problem is my dad is not here all the time and he can't put the drops in on his own when he's up in the North of the Netherlands.

So it's a bit on and off.

Touching his ear today he gave this yelp of pain and when I carefully checked the inside of his ear it was all red and nasty.

I went to the vet with me dad to have Trevor checked out.

We were helped by a nice female veterinarian and after confirming with my dad she put this powerful (expensive) antibiotic cream in his ear that should help him recover fast.

She also found a tick and a small lump on his side.

Trevor gets ticks often that I usually remove with a lot of trying but she did it within 2 seconds.

I was proper impressed.

The lump was 'ignored' because of age.

My dad biggest fear was that he would not be allowed to swim anymore.

But the vet said...No...let him enjoy the rest of his life.

It's only two times a year he gets an infection!

(I made the Cha-ching sound in my head!)

Lol, all joking aside though I do like that pragmatic approach.

No point in not enjoying life as long as it's possible.

We also left with a 10kg bag of special food for old dogs that was roughly 12x more expensive than what he normally gets.

I was ordered not to drop it!

My dad is as tight as they come when spending money except in these moments when he doesn't give a fuck.

Only the very best for his best friend!

And he's right.

Wow being 12 years old looks very good, it's like they say: you're never too old to do something and he showed it! Medicine and food are a small price compared to how valuable their is presence and friendship should be to their father :)

Good night I wanted to @exyle, you have no idea how happy I felt, to see you take your father's vet to the vet, I tell you that I have two dogs and they are like my daughters, one is 9 years old and she is 7 years old and you are part of the family, I understand your father that he does not skimp on the care of his friend, I am like him, I love the puppies and your father's puppy looks beautiful, God allows it to last for many years and that infection is eliminated with that cream, and you have to take care of it, of the ticks, here I leave a picture to my daughters.

They're beautiful!! 💜💜

Thank you, they are part of my life

Thank you. and your dogs look very nice!

Thank you very much, honey, I love my bitches

Mark @exyle Yes Your Dad's Best Friend should have the Best Food and Best of Care even if his Son has to Help Pay For It. My Guess is Your DAD spent a few Bucks on you for Food when you were Growing UP.............Paybacks are a Bitch !

This actually remained me of my favorite pet Rudy, I used to love taking her around but unfortunately she is dead now. There is nothing compared to the love of someone pet (dog).

Awwwww... Its sad ro see that cute Trevor is sick. How could swiming possibly cause him an ear infection by the way?

You talked about the beautiful veterinarian who removed trevors tick in 2 seconds, lolzzz... What did you expect? Ofcourse she is a pro and have been doing that for years. Lol

I hope trevor recorvers fast anyways.

According to her. Dirty water get's in his ear and brings with it bacteria.

Awww you have a very good example to follow with your father and how to treat your hairy friend (lol), it is really wonderful to know that Trevor will be able to continue enjoying the water.

From here I send a huge hug to Trevor and he recovers soon. ❤

thanks!

Wow, brother 12 years? Looks like a puppy, haha. I hope that soon he recovers so that he continues practicing swimming

thank you!

I had a Lab that lived to be 14 years old and she was active up until her very last days. She may not have moved as fast as she did before, but you could tell her spirit had never broke. Continue to enjoy Trevor's company. Dog's are a great gift for many families.

Thank you! I hope he will be here for a little while longer.

So sad, when our dogs are sick is always a worry for us because they're like family to us... Particularly, my dog doesn't like to go to the vet, he hates it, and I don't know why he always know when we are taking him, it's like they can feel it.

No point in not enjoying life as long as it's possible.

A good lesson there for all of us @exyle.

Trevor is very lucky to have people like you and your Dad to care for him. Hope his ear clears up quickly and he enjoys his gourmet food! 😁

He will be eating like a king :)

Hoping for a speedy recovery , such a cute dog! A brave one for sure as well

Nice to see Trevor its great to see him i hope Trevor will be fine soon

Hi exyle. Our vet sent us to a specialist. My ears pricked up when that word was mentioned and knew the wallet was going to be under attack. Had the same with our dog and set us back over $1000 with the visit and treatment. Asked us to come back in 4 weeks. Wasn't going back to the specialist again after that.

A pet is family too so I understand the 'i dont give a fuck' attitude 😂😂 when we still had a dog I always said ' al moet ik droog brood eten, die hond zal het aan niets ontbreken' 😂😂

Haha! I'm glad you can relate.

Anything for man's best friend.

A man that loves his dog can be trusted.

Don't feel bad about the tick removal time though, she's had much more practice.

That dog looks amazing. I almost can't believe it's over 12 years old.

Great to see Trevor again and wishing him a quick recovery. Seen him a couple of times- I remember when you took him to the park. I can believe that your Dad will do anything for him because after 12 years of being best friends the bond must be really strong. Dogs are truly wonderful animals.

Wow I dont know what it is lately but it seems so many peoples pets are getting sick could the hot weather have something to do with all this sickness I wonder, and that's is so sweet of your dad anything to help hes buddy good man @exyle glad Trevor can still enjoy hes swimming onwards.

What a nice blog post. I hope Trevor is not in pain anymore though. I bet probiotics might help his immune system be stronger. They helped my dog immensely. It wasn't very expensive just a powder to add to his kibble. It's really cool how effortless you make blogging look! Haha, it's impressive! And, you're so consistent. Nice job man!

He's already 'flapping' less with his ears so that's good! Effortless...haha..i don't know..I I just write about my day. Guess I had lots of practise by now. Makes it easier.

I think your father will be very grateful to you for taking your best friend to the Cure! Must appreciate it is amazing how noble dogs can be

glad to know that vet allowed tevor to do what ever he likes. 12 years and still active. It is a big time. Hopefully your father will enjoy the company of trevor without further medication. @exyle

Cute dog. Ours gets those kinds of infections pretty frequently. We started just keeping a bottle of the antibiotic cream on hand at home. It saves us from having to take her in every time. It must be cheaper here in the states than there though. I hear you about the dog food. Our old lady has food allergies, so we have to feed her the expensive stuff to keep her happy. I don't think she realizes how good she has it and how much we pamper her :) She is 9 now and she has some small bumps under her skin as well. Like your vet, ours has told us not to worry about them. Thanks for sharing this post about your dad's dog. Hopefully he is swimming again in no time!

As we age our pet friends become more important because they may be the only constant in our lives. Our people friends (and family) star passing away or moving on into retirement apartments. Life just isn't the same. The animal friends keep us young and active and gives us a purpose. If the dog enjoys swimming, I say let him. Much like people, let them enjoy life to the fullest...
