Vlog 235: Investing in consumers goods + Waiting for the markets to choose direction.

in #life7 years ago

I like to invest in good projects on the blockchain but also in consumer goods in my own life that will last a long time.

The money you don't have to spend (in the future) is money earned (in the future).

For example, I bought a very good electric clipper thing for my hair. It cost around $80.

Enough money to get me 4 haircuts at the barber.

But after 4 sessions at home, I'm break-even on my investment. And from then on it's earning money (I don't have to spend).

The money I don't have to spend I can now reinvest in something else.

If you have family members at home that can also use this device it goes even faster.

I know this is a simple example but this how I look at consumer goods.

I also look at the quality of the product, how often I use it, if it can save me time and how much joy it will bring me.

Yesterday I was hoping BTC would break through $12000, it was looking strong for a moment but it came back down.

I hear a lot of bullish stories but unless I see this signal myself I'm not buying.

I'm still waiting, investing in crypto is a patient game.

Yesterday I got some questions how I change my SBD's to other cryptos.

I use blocktrades.us to change SBD to Dash or BTC.

They charge a fee but I don't mind because it's very convenient.

You can also use Bittrex (exchange) for instance but I never do.

I talk about it more in my vlog.

I love that simple practical approach to INVESTING!

The truth is that investing has MANY levels and for me I see that "simply" as making food at home. We make EPIC FEASTS at home which would cost HUNDREDS of dollars if we were to go to a Resturant as a group yet cost us almost nothing but a bit of time.

Then all that money we save we can INVEST in something else like CRYPTOS!!!

The truth is that investing has MANY levels

Well said, man!

Thanks!
Though all I am reiterating is what YOU said!

I have been living this way for 17 years and while I may not be the richest man in the world I haven't had to work for someone in 17 years and live an abundant, free and happy life!

That is in great deal to me considering the long term 'investment" of life it self. Most people spend most of their money on food, rent or "haircuts" the basics of life and then have little to leverage/invest and don't go anywhere because all their money is spent by the time they make it!

Thanks for sharing this simple example as it is actually MORE important to most normal folks as most normal folks don't have 1k to invest in cryptos.

Though when they SAVE 1k from SPENDING it then they can INVEST it!

I totally concur with you that investment is just the best thing one can ever make do with his cash. I'm going to relate this to a particular book I read titled "Rich Dad, Poor dad". You might have millions of dollars in your hand and if you don't know how to invest it, then I can certainly say you are a "poor dad" because your future is not guaranteed without investment and if someone else who has just a hundred dollars invest it very well, then he's quite good as being rich.
Investment is the key to a brighter future.

I just make a post.. Please upvote https://steemit.com/poetry/@dtwo/imagination

Very good thinking - I can totally identify with - buy best quality often turns out to be the cheapest long term. I had that with my garden watering system - you can have everything plastic and it breaks in a year or two or you can spend 5x as much and have everything solid for a life time.

The clipper thing is a good example on why to invest in consumer goods and try to save money in the future. The idea is to spend now to avoid spending much more in the future

I love this simple example. It’s easy for everyone to understand and I think we can apply this to many things in life.
I’m also very proud of myself for not checking Coinbase every day and for relaxing more when it comes to crypto prices. I could lose my mind if I checked Coinmarketcap or Coinbase many times a day!
Patience is key!

We know how you feel about volatility and stability on the markets. Hahaha, we want some movement too, but in the right direction lol.

Well done on purchasing a consumer good investment. Ours is a blender - doesn't save money on haircuts, but saves money on smoothies and should be good for our health (knowing what we put into our smoothies). :)

I used to think like you about buying quality products. Unfortunately, I have lived to an old age with the same good "stuff". Now I look for a bit more variety. I still own stuff from the 1970s.

Do you still use the stuff you bought in the 70's? Is there better out there now?

Mostly, but it would be nice to have new things. It just seems wasteful to purchase new when old still functions. Can you imagine spending money on a new gold egg if you tire of your green one? By the way... thanks for being real.

Good luck with your trimmer... do not forget to put some oil in ;-)... I hope BTC will soon will recover and we can look to new ATH's I think Steem is so much stronger and will also benefit a BTC recovery

Wow. $30 for a man's haircut. That's even more expensive than here.

I have a very different perspective on the hair clippers. I don't see value just in how well they work, for example. I think there is value in the social aspect of going to the barbers.

And in your case, there could be a delayed monetary value. You could be talking to people and spreading the news about crypto and Steemit. So, you might be missing an opportunity! 😁

Haha, I like the way you think, and you are absolutely right. If you enjoy going to the barber it's worth it I guess. I'm not a big fan of going there. So this works for me. Of course, the clipper is just an example, there are many other things were the same 'line of thinking' can apply.

I agree, electric hair clipper is a small example but if we follow the same in different things, we may end up saving a bit more, after-all that a penny saved is a penny earned, truth is even small savings can add up over time. The trick is to find ways to save every single day on different things and remain focused on it.

Wow!!, you have a nice haircut with a curly hair at the top, am sure Bianca will like that. Lol
I also get same question from my friends I introduce to Steemit, on how to convert there sbd to other cryptocurrency. I will be making a video about that this week with blocktrades.

Thanks so much for sharing @exyle, I really enjoy my time watching and reading your post today. Your explanation on consumer goods is just perfect, I took some on my time in thinking much about it.

Most people feel that investment only gotta be a business venture or something close to that but they don't know that consumer goods can also fit into this term. Sometime last year, I bought a refrigerator for over $400 and my friends were like Darn!,! Why spend that much in a refrigerator. You are just a student. Its been one year and counting, I am still deriving quality satisfaction from my refrigerator and I am not stopping anytime soon. It helps me to save food and money

Excellent video friend and i agree with your thoughts, no doubt we always need to invest wisely especially when it comes to consumer's goods and you leave a very nice example here to buy electric clipper and now you don't need a barber anymore and after some time that clipper will start providing you free hair cuts, thanks for sharing your life experiences with us friend and wish you all the best in all of your future endeavors! Stay blessed

I agree with you. I do the same now a days. I go to the coiffure once in a two months and do the rest alone. Bought everything I need to style my hair and could save a bit.
The market needs patience :)

I love investing, investing made me lower my expenses as much as i can and already earned me a good amount of profit! I stopped buying useless stuff like chewing gum, expensive water bottles, games, etc.... all my money is being redirected to investing!

blocktrades appears to be returning my transfers today, never had that before.

I had no trouble so far. Is it still ongoing?

not ongoing, worked about two hours ago, sorry i should have updated this message but was on a discord video chat. maybe they just had low funds in the kitty! :) all sorted now.

Why don't you use bittrex?

I tend to avoid exchanges in general. I prefer the convenience of blocktrades.

I tried blocktrades for the first time last week, purely because you have promoted it before, it worked a treat! I prefer litecoin though, each to their own I guess, it was worth the try and I will be using this more in future (should I ever accumulate earnings :p)

Practical approaches to investing are the best honestly. Because then, YOU CAN ACTUALLY DO IT

Hmm !! Life-saving pattern of thinking far ahead. Based on your inspired writing, I would like to draw a conclusion to myself: That we should live by necessity not by an endless desire. And another, that we must improve our mindset or our life habits in the face of the increasingly complex challenges of the age. Indirectly I capture the meaning of it from your post. Sorry if I am wrong and too knowledgeable ... But your writing is a positive signal for many people.

An excellent example, my friend and the fact that we constantly need to invest in something this is absolutely the right decision, since there is a simple rule, money should work! Thank you Mark.

I don't think the patience attribute is only needed in Crypto business. Investment at a whole is a patience game. Most top notch companies today took over 20 years to achieve their current status and I don't mean 20 years of fun, 20 years of failing and rising up and failing again and again and again. It's only patience that can make an investor scale through such, and maybe Faith in God too

I think Bittrex use better. My friend told me about it

Sir, I'm a new comer at steemit. You're one of those people who inspired me. Your vlog guide me in every step. I have learnt several things from you. Thanks sir @exile.

I understand your point with getting the hair clipper and start feeling like your saving money in the long run and your definitely right on that - but at one point it dawned on me that it was making me waste more time on cleaning the hair that fell off and also cleaning the surrounding areas that made me think

'okay just spend the damn 15dollars instead of wasting 30 minutes'

and reading by your tone of talking about the BTC prices - are you still day trading? C'mon mang its about that long term game

Thanks for the infor, this will help GOD bless you sir. Exyle always on point

investment is a important main part for every buisness.its giving alot of money earn in the future. your thought really good. you doing invest of blockchain this is a good choice for your future success.hair clipper is a good example to you.i hope that you earned alot of money in the future this best tropic apply.i will try to apply this your example for my future.its really giving alot of money in the future.thank u very much for your good suggesion.everything is perfect sir. @exyle

Thats pretty cool to know . I would be watching this video. I will waiting for your next post.

but its hard to remember this economic roles every transaction i did but you right ... we have to calculate the break even for every investment we do so it can bring economic benefit ... great post as usual and thanks

After reading your story @exyle I've remembered an anecdote:
A guy comes to a restaurant, sits at the table and takes a menu. At first, he wants to order a scrumptious steak that costs $50, but after giving it some thinking, he orders an oatmeal that costs $2 and writes down in his notebook: "I just made $48".

Wow!!! That guy deserves an investment medal.
That was quite crafty and brainy too perhaps, he was mindful of his expenses

I appreciate your sarcasm.

but its tricky to dredge up this efficient roles every transaction i did but you desirable ... we come up with to evaluate the cut into equal for every investment we figure out hence it be able to be sold for cost-effective assistance ... absolute position as routine and merit

wow,very excllent post,thanks for sharing

that the thinking how to spend money. Your thoughts nice and effective

Great investment tips.
Investing especially long term is the best business tips or strategy offered to prospective investors.
Why spend on commodities that won't stand the test of time?
I believe Crypto investment is the biggest 21st century investment. Glad I joined

Most people environment that investment forlorn gotta be a issue venture or something near to that but they don't know that consumer goods can moreover fit into this term. Sometime last year, I bought a refrigerator for as soon as more $400 and my links were along with Darn!,! Why spend that much in a refrigerator. You are just a student. Its been one year and counting, I am yet deriving setting satisfaction from my refrigerator and I am not stopping anytime soon. It helps me to save food

Investing money Will really beneficial for you. 😊.

That’s the thing about consumer goods , we have to circulate money somehow if we save it doesn’t help the economy so I believe even a little helps . The markets aren’t showing us any good move yet .

Why save when you can invest :D

Oooo.. Nice haircut man! I agree with you that I think being prudent and frugal is crucial in the long run as you can invest in something that is useful instead of buying things that can last you for a short time. Upvoted!

good work my friend, good luck always friends,

Excellent example @exyle about consumer goods. The way of teaching is so impressive and simplest. I appreciate your way of teaching to your supporters. Thanks for giving me a new direction on saving the money. All the best!

The best investment is to find the top talent to build a bigger and better system to help him make money.

I like your way of thinking..ie long term indeed. You really saved time and money by investing in the clipper. Also patience is needed in crypto -keep steeming and happy Sunday

@exyle well that is a good positive way of saving. In the world we live in now you must try anyway you can to save. We do live in an Economy where the US Dollar will not be the King forever................

This is indeed a good diversification concept and sustainability too. Good post indeed, wish you a successful week

Good videos
