Fantastic lamb shoulder from the Green Egg. A 4 hour slow roast!

in #life7 years ago

Friday after work I went to Schell (the best butcher in Rotterdam) to buy something to make in the weekend on the Green Egg.

A friend of mine told me not long ago that I should really try lamb shoulder on the Egg.

I bought a 1.5KG lamb shoulder and roasted it today on the green egg for 4 hours.

It was amazing!

The lamb shoulder wasn't expensive. 10 euro the kilo.

The piece I bought in an oven dish in my kitchen.

Bianca made a marinate while I lit the Green egg. She used: a ton of garlic, mustard, sugar, smoked paprika, oil, lemon juice, black pepper, and salt. She covered the whole shoulder.

I prepared the green egg for indirect grilling (you can see the convector plate). 150C. Roasting the lamb shoulder without the oven Dish was a mistake. It started to drip a lot. Later I put the shoulder back in the dish.

4 hours later I opened the green egg and saw this. I was very happy. It's the one thing that is so hard with the Green egg, you can't open it halfway (losing heat) nor is there a window to check how things are going. You sort of have to trust the device to help you out. It takes some getting used to.

Carving of the lamb. The bone came out easy. The meat is almost falling off.

End result: We are still on a diet so I served the lamb with some grilled vegetables. Everything was well prepared and tasted great. We have some lamb left for tomorrow's leftovers :) I think this dish was the simplest dish I ever made on the egg, all it needed was time but the end result was delicious.

A ton of garlic ...; sleeping back to back tonight I guess? lol

I still can't get over that butcher shop. That is the real deal. I noticed in your picture it said "since 1796", wow, that is really cool.

The lamb shoulder looked incredible and from your first picture it looked like the meat would fall off the bone. The marinade Bianca made sounds really good and we'll have to try it. I bought a roaster a couple of years ago that I do pork butts, ribs and whole chickens in, and the drippings get really messy, I'll have to try it in a glass dish the way you did the lamb shoulder. Great idea and very practical.

Glad you're back on Steemfat man. You're doing a great job and it's really inspiring. You've done a lot of amazing videos, but the one you did earlier really resonated with me. Very inspiring! Enjoy the rest of your Sunday brother!

Yeah, it is amazing there! Carnivore heaven. It's also possible to make a basket from aluminum foil, but this is just easier. Steemfat is in full effect!

We haven't seen the green egg for a couple of days so I'm glad that it has returned haha

This butcher must definitely be the gates of heaven. The cuts of meat they have look so good. It is sad to see people don't eat shoulder much but at least that makes it cheap for people like you to buy.

The colouration is so prepossessing. It looks so tasty my mouth is just watering just looking at it. Great to see you had it with some vegetables.

So satisfying to see it coming off the bone so easily. So succulent and juicy it looks like it just melts in your mouth with how easy it was for you to cut it.

I'll definitely have a go with that marinate. I've never tried that combination before but it seems like it works out pretty well.

Despite the fact you only had a small portion at least you have some for tomorrow. Well I'm glad you enjoyed your meal @exyle! :)

I'm going to eat the rest when I done all my replies :)

this lamb looks so delicious, but you are evil - Bianca trying to weight loss and you buy so big and delicious meat ))) after this kind of video/photos i want to eat

Haha we just shared half of it, and didn't repeat!

Being on a diet doesn't mean you have to eat bad food :)

You are a masterchef :)

Looks amazing! Loving the videos as well!

Thanks!

Oh my!!! That looks so good! I've always been jealous of your green egg. I want one! But they are very expensive in Norway.

Thanks! Truth be told they are also extremely expensive here :)

Shoulder is the best part of lamb, very tender and juicy...looks insanely delicious . Totally deserve my 100% upvote....

I've never had lamb before, but it looks so tender and juicy, I'm going to have to give it a try. everything you cook you make look so incredibly delicious. i know we're trying to eat more healthy and i'm going to start grilling the veggies. they look great and it will be a change up from the norm. happy to see you're sticking with Steemfat!! :)

Thank you! Steemfat is going very well!

Oh my gosh! This looks so delicious. I need to try this out. It is a little harder to find lamb here, but I think it would be worth it. I will also Bianca's marinade too. It may go well with other meats. If this meal is one the diet, I am going on this one too.

I don't think there is much wrong with meat and vegetables for dinner :)

Hmmm, I am not entirely sure that is safe footwear when near hot coals ;O)

And wow, that is some tender looking lamb, the knife just glides through it!

It beats barefeet....lol. The green egg is a little less dangerous than my old grill. Evil thing that was. It's still not 100% better btw. Highly recommend to never stand on hot coal.

Ever since I saw your hot coal escapade I have written the sturdiest of shoes when grilling. Glad it seems to be all better!

Lamb is, without any doubt (in my mind at least) the absolute king of meats. And this post, with all the pictures, has my mouth watering (even though it's only 8.30am here!)

I can almost smell the lamb and the garlic. It looks amazing.
I love slow roast lamb with shed loads of garlic and rosemary, roasted so long the meat just falls off the bone like yours did.

Top work !

Thank you!

And if you have any leftovers from this (unlikely if you're anything like me!) I highly recommend you shred the leftover lamb off the bone and make a shepherds pie with it.

It tastes so so much better than one made with minced lamb.

I'm doubly hungry now thinking about it!

Me cooking

Are those grilled tomatoes and aubergines/eggplants as sides to the lamb? Because grilled tomatoes make any dish much better

Bell peppers and aubergine this time! I love grilled tomatoes as well.

This looks absolutely amazing exyle! The pic where the lamb was just sliding off the bone made me instantly go to the fridge, knowing that I don't have anything in there close to what you cooked haha

I love roasted lamb too. Never did this on my smoker. We always use the oven. I will try it next time from the grill. Good idea!!!

It will be great!

Nice to see you cooking @exyle sir, i really like the lamb shoulder from the Green Egg recipe and i like to say that cooking is not difficult. everyone has taste, even if they don't realize it. even if you're not a great chef, there's nothing to stop you understanding the difference between what tastes good and what doesn't.

That is very true!

Noooooo, I am hungry allover again!!

That lamb shoulder making me hungry again even I have finished my lunch just right now. It must be having great energy values and proteins. Some extra fat will be accumulated by it but you are a gym freak so that will be burnt very easily. Have a great time buddy. Enjoy your day.
