Exploring London's famous landmarks, FIVE GUYS burger, and having amazing Thai food dinner with Rea and Ezzy.

in #life7 years ago

Ezzy and Rea had to work, so it was just Bianca and I for most of the afternoon yesterday exploring London.

We left @ezzy's house around 11:00 to take the tube to central London. Sadly it had broken down so we were stuck straight away.

I called Ezzy asking for advice. He offered to pick us up quickly and drive us 7 minutes to another subway line. What a guy!

Bianca and I got out of the tube at a station called Westminster. All the famous stuff is visible from there. The Big Ben, Parliament, the London Eye, Westminster Abby. It was nice but the amount of people there! my goodness. I felt like a sardine in a can.

I'm not the biggest fan of large crowds so we quickly took a stroll past all the famous stuff and decided to walk past the river Thames to do some free style exploring.

This is how Bianca and I usually explore new cities. Just walk around, without a real plan.

This is not my first trip to the UK. But what always surprises me is the amount of small shop owners, businesses and restaurants that you can find anywhere. I feel in the Netherlands we have way more generic stores.

I was hungry and I remember @ezzy saying something about a place called five guys. Awesome burgers according to him. As luck would have it we came across one. We decided to order one bacon and cheese burger for the two of us. It was the best fast-food burger I ever had.

Another thing I like about London is the amount of parks (big and small) we came across in just a small walk. It's so relaxing to have all these place to chill and relax.

Around 17:00 we all met up at @ezzy place for drinks and snacks. Rea ordered us seats at one of their favourite restaurants. A small Thai place within walking distance.

The food in this place was out of this world. Full of flavour and just spicy enough. O man! Another thing I liked (and never heard of in my life) you could bring your own drinks!

I couldn't believe it. Cracking open a pint of Stella in a restaurant. Awesome :)

Today is our last day. Tomorrow we fly home again. I heard we going to have breakfast in an awesome restaurant today. I can't wait.

London looks incredible man! There's so much history, things to see and food to try. That's what I love about big cities, any type of food you want you can usually find. I'm with you on the 5 Guys burgers, they're insanely delicious!

I wanted to let you know I think we have an answer to the Steem exchange problem. @crypto-investor describes what's been going on here:

"I think the issue with Steem freezes is how Steem operates. With BTC, an exchange generates each user unique addresses, with Steem that don't work, they're only permitted to have one or a few accounts, but not a unique blockchain address for each individual user's deposits. This means, they have to sort out the transactions using the memo field. What if they get a bunch of deposits without memos? With BTC, those funds would just go missing/lost... with Steem, each exchange, especially US exchanges are then obligated to resolve that issue with the person since it is not their property. Ideally, they would be able to reject such a transaction, but due to the strangeness of blockchain they can only accept it, hang on to it, ect. This creates a customer service and administration nightmare for 1 single cryptocurrency, that currency being Steem. It would be better if we had a DEX which just burned the funds or donated bad deposits somewhere, rather than try to administratively deal with people who fail to use crypto transactions correctly. So whenever the exchanges get backed up in terms of customer service, I think an easy place for them to find more man hours is to freeze Steem and SBD withdrawals & deposits."

I think this makes perfect sense and it looks like an issue Steem Inc will need to fix going forward.

Have a great day brother and enjoy that extra leg room on the trip home!

This is the best explination I read so far. Thanks man!

the reason why you see more small shop owners in the UK and the difference between the netherlands..is because UK is a more libertarian country than holland and the rest of west europe mainland is...in way of taxing small business owners...UK doesn't have high taxes for small business owners...

I did not know that about UK law. It does explain a lot. I do love all the small businesses around here.

Wow, even at work ezzy is willing to wiggle his way to give you guys a helping hand to the next subway line. At which station was there a broken down train? I don't think I've ever seen a broken down train before.

Westminster is probably the most prominent and best place to go in London. It has all the attractions London is credited for. My favourite thing to look at is probably the Houses of Parliament. It is absolutely massive with so many intricate patterns and design. I was blown away from the architectural genius after seeing it haha

I'm also not a fan of huge crowds. I feel uncomfortable when there are so many people commuting in and out and all around you. You sometimes feel like you are being suffocated with all those people surrounding you, limiting your personal space.

I've only been to Five Guys once or twice but they make some extraordinary burgers. They are so delicious my mouth is watering just looking at that photograph of that juicy, succulent burger.

Dinners looked absolutely fantastic and there is nothing better than washing all of that tasty food down with a nice can of Stella @exyle haha

It was the baker loo line. I think Ezzy drove us to the jubilee line (one that goes straight to Westminster).

There are certain photos that are vibrant in color, and other ones that look like they are washed out and taken with a 35mm analog camera. I don't understand.

Specifically the one of the park, you and the girl, and the table with the green bottle are different in color.

The photo with the rice, and there is a dish there with mushrooms. I can tell how tasty that is just by looking at it. Yumm..

The photo of the merchants in the "tunnel" is that for a tram or subway? The ceiling just gives the whole thing a certain pause and reflection on how special that is...

There are certain photos you upload that are ...just... art...

I suppose thats why I was disappointed to see the washed out color photos.

I guess I'm complaining about nothing. It's just that I remember the first time I saw you put a piece of raw steak on your counter, and somehow the photo made it so alive, I felt I was standing there next to you looking at it before it was cooked. That image is now in my mind forever. :)

Either way, good post... look forward to what else you put out there.

I think I might have missed a filter one some photo's. Thanks for pointing that out. I still do like them though :). Soon I'll be cooking on my teen egg again.

Five guys has really good burgers in general. I actually haven't been to a restaurant that allows you bring your own beer without paying some type of corkage. It's great that you can bring your own drinks into that Thai restaurant.

I never heard of it until I got here!

It's a well known burger franchise in the U.S. It usually enters into the argument about which is the best fast food burger chain in the states.

This is amazing! Great pictures and besides the small things, it seems like you had an awesome trip :)
I've heard of five guys before and I got told that they have the best burgers ever, but I still need to try it! Have a safe trip back home and enjoy your breakfast !

Freestyle exploring is the way to go! I always do the same in new cities/places. Bring your own beers is quite a big thing here. I really like it as can talk along any old whack job nonsense I like lol

I love bring your own beer man! :)

Its like equality at last for beer drinkers as you have been able to do iot with wine in lots of places for ages! lol

Great trip @exyle :) When I explore new city I haven't plan, exactly like you. Spontaneus exploring is much better for me :)

Bacon and cheese burger!? What happened to Steemfat? Haha, its okay for cheat days, especially when you're on a holiday. As long as you are able to shred it off later, you're good.

Tomorrow it will be full on Steemfat again! I already said before....this weekend will be free of Steemfat :)

If you like the parks then Regent's Park and the canal (especially the part between between Little Venice and Islington) is a great little wander. Less crowded, although look out for the bicycles! The view from the top of Primrose Hill is really worth the little climb! Nice day for it too!

So nice to see you are enjoying this trip! Londen is one of my favorite places. Last time though I used Uber all the time while traveling through the city. I found that very nice because while driving you see a lot of the city as well.

What an awesome time you're having!

Great blog! Well done :)

Sometimes it is better to explore a new place without a plan. That way you are open to getting lost and finding something extraordinary that you may not have come across if you had planned. Awesome looking Thai food!

Hey @exyle, you took some great shots in Central London.
I am happy you and Bianca enjoyed the Thai place, the food was indeed awesome, and I had a great time too!!

Great pics of London @exyle ! I love seeing actual pics from true, real tourist angles.
Now, about this FIVE GUYS place - did they have the fries cut right in front of you? Here in Midwest, USA - the FIVE GUYS place has a person making the fries right in front of you from potatoes, to cutter, to fryer...
I love getting FIVE GUYS burgers with A-1 sauce, green peppers ! ! !

The rain, which had continued yesterday and last night, ceased this morning. We then proceeded, and after passing two small islands about ten miles further, stopped for the night at Piper's landing, opposite another island.

Great😊😊😊. I'm new here and please upvote me

Your photos are amazing. It seems you really captured the heart of the city, from the tourist attractions to the less well known hidden spots that only the locals know about. Roaming about at your own leisure of the beaten track is the best way to explore when on holiday, it allows you to capture unforgettable memories. Great post.

Really nice pictures and looks as though you are having a great time. Wow, I didn't realize that small shops were so prevalent there. I love that the UK doesn't tax them so heavily. Other countries might take notice!
