It is HOT outside. Like 105 F (40 C) hot here in California. Barbecues, weddings, and adventures all pull us out doors into this ridiculousness. Fear not! Essential oils can actually bring down your body temperature; this is great for circumstances where you don't want to be that crazy relative dumping a bucket of ice over them at their nephew's wedding. Instead, carry these in your pocket to stay cool.
1. Peppermint
Rub just one drop of peppermint on your temples, the back of your neck, or down your spine to feel a cooling sensation. You know how when you brush your teeth with peppermint toothpaste, your mouth feels cold after? If you put it on your back, your body will feel cooler! But don't put toothpaste on your back. That's crusty. Use the invisible essential oil instead.
Peppermint can also clear your airways, ease an upset tummy, and help take away grogginess.
2. Eucalyptus
This awesome essential oil cools you down like an ice pack, so place anywhere you're feeling hot. It can also promote clear skin, ease breathing, or be used in a cleaning spray.
3. Spearmint
This strain of the mint family has a softer presence than peppermint. Apply just as you would peppermint and have a more subtle reaction. Or put a drop into your water to cool down from the inside out.
It can also be used to uplift your mood and stay focused.
When using essential oils on children, the elderly, or anyone that has a sensitivity, dilute! You can dilute essential oils in any fatty-based carrier oil such as fractionated coconut oil, almond oil, or avocado oil. You could make a spray bottle, roller ball, or mix the carrier oil with essential oil in the palm of your hand.
