RE: HOW MUCH MONEY DOES IT TAKE TO FEEL SAFE…

in #life8 years ago (edited)

It's getting worse by the day, I'm afraid. Life is too short to live your whole life a paycheck from bankruptcy. With the U.S. healthcare system structured the way it is, this is the case for all but the most wealthy. One major illness or accident and any of us could be wiped out financially. Honestly, I wouldn't care if I only had $1 to my name if I knew my family's basic needs would be met and I could travel. I'm really not into material things.

It's such a shame, this country lost it's way... It wasn't that long ago, that normal middle/working class people could retire with a house, a pension (maybe depending on job), some equity.., and live the latter years of their lives in relative peace. Not having to worry if they could afford their medicine... Such a shame!

But as you said.., the Netherlands sounds good :))

I've already been researching pretty extensively - http://www.iamsterdam.com/en/local/move/before-moving

I really hope you guys make it happen and become expats somewhere great!

Just in case unfortunately there is a major illness, (in general) wouldn't it be better to treat it in China or eastern Europe rather than to be wiped out financially?

Oh! Great post @macksby! Almost forgot :P
