The Joy of the Present Moment Through Mindfulness (Article + Video)

in #life7 years ago (edited)

Humans are biological creatures. We have evolved over the course of the Earth’s history, starting as simple cells, and winding up as bipedal beings with brains. This means that the chisel that carved our species made us survivable. Our brains are formed for the purposes of keeping our bodies alive.

A side effect of this is that the experiential part of reality is a byproduct of universal processes. There are many hiccups that each of us faces as a result of taking ourselves out of a survival-oriented world. Civilization has changed the type of environment we live in, but we remain mentally geared to prepare for possible scenarios our genetic ancestors would have faced for the eons leading up to the dawn of humanity.

As such, we are often removed from the present moment while survival programming runs in the back of our minds (or sometimes in the front of our minds). This results in a net loss of our general satisfaction with life. We may often feel that the party we were so hyped about turned out to be fairly mediocre. But, the only reason we feel disappointed is our own means of anticipating the future; a trait which has long allowed us to survive threatening situations.

This grows into a greater problem, as we are rapidly approaching a point where being grounded in the moment will allow greater survivability than pre-planning. Technology has catalyzed an exponential shift in the world around us. There will come a time in the near future where the change is happening so rapidly that any long-term plans are certain to fail. Reacting gracefully will be the only way forward.

Our inherent programming keeps us from embracing the moment. The solution is to flex your agency and be mindful. As you consciously focus your attention to the present moment, you train yourself to unconsciously focus there. Our attention is a like a muscle, and needs to be trained. By willingly seeking improvement, you take the first step on a journey to live the best life-path you can possibly walk.

Every moment is a choice. Every moment is an experience. Make yours the best you can make them.

It has been scientifically proven that Darwin's theory of evolution is not true and archeological discovery prove that history of human race is far more different than anyone can imagine. 7 years ago I found the source of information that explains how the human race has actually been created and this is the free educational video series that explains this > https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYuoBRUbZZ8l3sGnuAjI1rcpyJ1ke86un

Hello & Cheers!! I'm a content detection and information bot. You are receiving this reply because a short link or links have been detected in your post/comment. The purpose of this message is to inform your readers and yourself about the use of and dangers of short links.

To the readers of the post: Short links are provided by url shortening services. The short links they provide can be useful in some cases. Generally their use is benign. But as with all useful tools there are dangers. Short links can be used to hide all sorts of things. Quite frequently they are used to hide referral links for instance. While not dangerous this can be deceptive. They can also be used to hide dangerous links such as links to phishing sites, sites loaded with malware, scam sites, etc. You should always be extremely cautious before clicking on one. If you don't know and trust the poster don't click. Even if you do you should still be cautious and wary of any site you are sent to. It's always better to visit the site directly and not through a short link.

To the author of the post: While short links may be useful on some sites they are not needed on steemit. You can use markdown to format your links such as this link to steemit. It's as simple as [steemit](https://steemit.com) Unlike short links this allows the reader to see where they are going by simply hovering over the link before they click on it.

This message was created by a bot. It is part of the ongoing fight against spam and phishing attacks on steemit. If you did not use short links in your post and feel you have received this message in error you can contact @fubar-bdhr on discord or @fubar.bdhr on steemit chat to report the issue.

I replaced the short link with the original link now.

Video has a very cool animation however without any real explanation why we are constantly distracted by thoughs and what is the practical solution to prevent thoughts from distracting us. So I am exciting to share the link to free online course that provides you with exact information and usable tools to successfully live in the present > http://lite.desteniiprocess.com

Do you think we revisit the passed (memories) to try to understand the present moment?

And when we do that, we miss the miracle of the eternal now?

If that is true, what is the purpose of memories?

Really refreshing article. Expecting more like these.
