See How The Other Half Steal
Will it be any good?
Lucky Logan has a lot of promise, and currently holds a 100% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of writing. Steven Soderbergh is a good competent director, who has managed to assemble a decent cast, in what looks to be a potential little gem of a movie.
Lucky Logan hits cinemas 18th August
The Dark Tower
The Dark Tower is the latest big screen adaptation of a work by prolific story teller and wordsmith Stephen King. Stephen King needs no introduction but I will give him one anyway. King has authored some of the most incredible books of the past 30 years, with many being adapted for the screen, including The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, The Running Man and Misery. The Dark Tower is intended to kick a new franchise, which will include future films and a spin-off television series. The Dark Tower stars potential future James Bond, Idris Elba, and bongo drum enthusiast Matthew McConaughey.
The official synopsis of the movie
Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, the ambitious story from one of the world’s most-celebrated authors, makes its long-awaited launch to the big screen, starring Idris Elba as Roland Deschain and Matthew McConaughey as the Man in Black. Sharing an ancient vendetta, they must fight to the death in this epic battle over the fate of the All-World Universe.
In a world of superheroes, there is only one gunslinger.
Will it be any good?
The Dark Tower is considered to be one of Stephen Kings biggest achievements and it has taking some time to get it on the big screen. There will be a lot of pressure for this movie to be a commercial success, with the studio hoping to establish a franchise. Stephen King is a colossal story teller and messing up one of his pieces of work is the equivalent of messing up the Star Wars prequels, oh wait.
The Dark Tower will be showing from 4th August
Detroit
Based on the real life events of the 1967 Detroit riot. Academy Award winning director Kathryn Bigalow brings this troubled event of American history to the big screen, and it is apparently being shown at limited theaters. Detroit stars British actors, Finn from Star Wars and Will Poulter
The official synopsis of the movie
In the summer of 1967, rioting and civil unrest starts to tear apart the city of Detroit. Two days later, a report of gunshots prompts the Detroit Police Department, the Michigan State Police and the Michigan Army National Guard to search and seize an annex of the nearby Algiers Motel. Several policemen start to flout procedure by forcefully and viciously interrogating guests to get a confession. By the end of the night, three unarmed men are gunned down while several others are brutally beaten.
It's Time We Knew
Will it be any good?
This film has Oscar fodder written all over it. The source material will strike a chord of what is happening with Black Lives matter in America today, and will pose questions, such as, have we moved on or learnt any lessons from the past? The answer is no, if you were wondering. This will be sure to be a difficult watch but it has all the hallmarks of a very good movie, by an excellent film maker.
Detroit hits theatres on the 4th August
Annabelle: Creation
Annabelle: Creation is the fourth instalment of the successful Conjuring franchise and a prequel to Annabelle. It tells the story of how a creepy ass doll became possessed by the spirit of a child. Other than that guy that was in Without a Trace I really don’t recognise any of the actors in this movie. All good looking young actors that will no doubt run, scream and hide throughout the duration of the movie.
The official synopsis of the movie
In “Annabelle 2,” several years after the tragic death of their little girl, a dollmaker and his wife welcome a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home, soon becoming the target of the dollmaker´s possessed creation, Annabelle.
You don't know the real story
Will it be any good?
Standard screams are expected other than that I'm not expecting a great deal. It might be a bit fun, I guess.
Annabelle: Creation will be scaring audiences from 11th August
Other releases in August
Atomic Blonde, The Hitman’s Bodyguard , Polaroid, The Glass Castle, Leap and Kidnap
Looking forward to the Dark Tower :-)
