I imagine many of you are hear on steemit as a way of creating your own path sharing what rings true to you. To be truly happy in life you need to follow the path that fits you. Living the life someone tries to force upon you will only cause harm to all individuals involved.
If you always try to push someone in to a certain direction that they don't want to go they will start to harbor resentment towards you because they will not be happy with the path they are going down and will generally become frustrated with someone being overbearing.
The person doing the pushing will also becomes more and more frustrated as for one they spend so much time thinking of other people they don't put aside the time to think about themselves and they don't understand why you are frustrated. There is nothing wrong with sharing your opinion or trying to help someone, however it becomes unhealthy when you constantly try to force it on someone.
It's down to you
It is worse to fail than to not try at all. This saying is something to really take into account as even if you fail you can be happy that you tried and from that do better next time, where as if you never try you will always be left picturing what you could have done or what could have been. If you spend too much time in the past how can you truly be in the present.
There is also nothing wrong with following in other peoples footsteps, it's all about what is right for you. There are pathways laid out for a reason and they can be a very useful tool. For some people they want to continue doing what their parents do and others will want to do anything but that. It really is just finding what works for you, what is your dream/passion, find that and do what you can to follow it.
I would also add just because you start down one path does not mean that you can't get off, if you think you really want to pursue a subject but when you actually start doing it you don't enjoy it, its never too late to get off and change to another path that fits you better.

I agree, its sometimes very hard to break free , especially when you are young from what a parent or elder might be pushing you towards . And I think as humans we naturally like to have the blessing of people we care about , but sometimes have to do your own thing regardless of this.
