These are all great points. When a person decides to lose weight, they have to consider that to have long-term success, they have to change their relationship with food entirely. We were taught by our parents (in most cases) how to eat and nourish ourselves. It’s going to be a challenge for the full grown adult that grew up on fast food and TV dinners to start a new diet and keep up with it let alone changing their eating habits.
You absolutely have to re teach yourself how to eat. It takes A LOT of time, energy, and mindfulness to change your relationship with food.
With all my clients, one of their biggest struggles was the subconscious relationship with food. They would eat because they were hungry so almost anything that sounded healthy was good enough, rather than look for the foods that their own body was asking for. They had to constantly remind themselves to be mindful of what they were eating and when they were eating it. Tracking your calories on an app may be helpful to some, but is tracking every meal every day of your life practical? Maybe for many. Or you can learn to eat healthier with good balance and not obsess over everything you put in your mouth. We are here to live and enjoy life, and it’s much better when you’re taking advantage of all the wonderful food grown from our earth.
