There's a current trend called 'By age 35' due to some article published by this finance website called Fidelity. Not that I care so much about this trend, it just happened to have triggered me by age 35. Perhaps it is just an asinine and insensitive attempt to wake my fellow 35s to the reality of being old and broke. Here's the thing, people are just too obsessed with saving for the retirement, the future and the fear of being hungry and homeless someday.
The article says that I should have saved 2x my annual salary by age 35. Or maybe what it really means is that my debt should be 2x my annual salary due to interests. Though there's really nothing wrong with saving for retirement, I've just seen people who are too worried about their future tend to become uptight and unhappy. Too much of this whole retirement craze can be bad for the mental health. Just look at the present-focused people, they might not have the best living condition but they are happy as the Hindu Cows.
There must be a balance between this whole work for the retirement and live your life now. Good thing that some people don't fall for unrealistic financial advice from investment firms. Don't worry, you can still enjoy the 'By age 35' memes even if you have nothing saved for retirement.
And to celebrate 35, here's my own set of'By age 35'.
By age 35, you should have 2-3 real friends who know your shit and 800 social media friends who can easily unfriend you just because you call out their politics and express your opinion about their government propaganda.
By age 35, you should have realized that you love your cat more than people.
By age 35, you should have the same music playlist from the 90s decade and maybe it's time to move on?
By age 35, you should have traveled to 18 countries.
By age 35, you should not have saved enough for retirement because you chose to see the world instead.
By age 35, you should have noticed how hard it is to maintain a consistent waistline.
By age 35, you should have lost a dozen of cellphones.
By age 35, you should be aware that PMS sucks and that you can be a monster.
By age 35, you should not go back to your corporate job, anyway, it is hard to get a job now because of your age and because it is hard to explain the gaps in your resume or working experiences.
By age 35, you should be happy to know that your college crush is still single yet you also wonder why.
By age 35, you should be happy to know that you are still single.
By age 35, you should absolutely not care about what other people think.
By age 35, you should be talking to yourself, laughing alone and thinking a lot, or in short, you are crazier now.
By age 35, you should have some tiny crypto savings which you could easily convert to cash in case of emergency.
By age 35, you should have some personal project, purpose or business idea because it sucks to think of what else to do in life.
By age 35, you should appreciate that living alone is the best thing in the world.
By age 35, you should know that it's even harder to get along because by now you should be wise enough to see through people's bs.
By age 35, you should be constantly moving around because you are still homeless.
By age 35, you should be torn between settling down and traveling around.
By age 35, you should have bought too many books that you can't even find some time to read them.
By age 35, you should be impatient, impulsive and heartless.
By age 35, you should be happy working on your own, and enjoying the routine you have designed for yourself.
By age 35, you should be tired as F.
By age 35, you should only have sneakers, flipflops and surf siders because they are comfortable and you are tired.
By age 35, you should not have listened to those who told you what you should have accomplished by age 35.
By age 35, all you need to be is to be yourself.
I love that title lol.
"By age 35, you should have realized that you love your cat more than people."
Its my dog for me but otherwise agreed.
By age 35 you should have broken 2 or 3 unjust laws. That's the best I can come up with on short notice lol.
Did you mean to say * at least 23 * unjust laws? Or were you aiming as low as 2 -to- 3?
Haha I was setting an easy target for everyone lol.
Hehe I like this!
Design and create your ideal life, don't live it by default. This is not a dress rehearsal.
I’m only 6 (in cat years), a long way to go get. :)
Truth!
I'll be turning 41....so many "SHOULD HAVES"...but I chose many years ago to ignore those and do my best to fall asleep each night feeling like I have accomplished something for others and myself. Much respect
Awesome artichle. Wish more people could look at life the way you do. Just passed my 35 mark and still don't have a clue to what I want to do or become, but I'm living life and loving it. P.s. I can never get rid of my 90's playlist, those were the best.
I only set one goal for myself by 35 I want to be "technically retired" and I was able to do it at 26 :) My new goal is to visit each continent before then still have 4 more to go!
I think setting a time for all these goals just gives you anxiety that you're not where you need to be in life. Life isn't about its milestones and isn't defined by that well at least not for me it's a sequacious learning process and its up to you to accept what life teaches you and then use that to find your passion and happiness.
Focus on living and not living for certain moments
Age is just a number... I’m feeling young and more energetic every day.
I forgot what day is today and what month we’re in today and I want to live today and do what I can do because it might be my last day in this planet. lol
I refuse to tell my age to anyone and I tell them it’s big secret if one asked.
True that age is just a number!
If you been travelling then you should know better not to separate humans by their age or their race..lol
It's the opposite. Travel taught me how to separate humans by their age and race. As I get to know them better lol.
I kind of agree with your experiences..
However I would put it better.....Travel taught me how to separate humans by their world views and their core beliefs. As I get to know them better lol.
Im still curious now how old you are dude. Or at least, in what decade you behave ;)
Living in three different countries in the last five years makes me a feel more experienced in life than the average senior citizen ;)
Thanks for curiosity.lol
It's a big secret.haha
The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience
I liked this one the most. I saw a video from Jay Shetty about this By Age 35 ish where he was criticising all who where supporting that mindset.
Interesting, I will check out that video!
Nope, Never time to move on!! It's the best music in our lifetime ☺️
Nailed it!
I agree!!!
well said. Men is repsonsible for his deeds. Peoples let's talk rubbish do them their business and you do your own. Keep happy. It's a materialistic world which don't care poor. So just chill and be happy. @diabolika
I agree, thanks @kamchore!
LOL. I never understood this type of articles, each individual achieves different things by different age. The most important thing is to live and enjoy it, and it doesn't matter what you "should have" done or had.
True that!
Im agreeing so much more on your age 35 list than on the other ones that it is almost scary !!
It is!
Brilliant! I do believe that I have lived up to your rules. Albeit, adding on a few years... lol
Hehe just a few years!
Ahahahaaaa....this is one of your funniest posts I've ever seen. By age of 35, I want to have to some crypto savings and a beautiful family and plenty time for fun.
That is really cool imho!
I was wondering where that "At age 35" thing was coming from. I wonder how many people can actually save 2x their income. Probably not a very large portion of the world population.
It's silly. People have different life experiences and maturity levels at different ages. The idea that there's a "right way" to live your one life is absurd.
True.
By age 35, you figure out who you are and what you want in life. So, you are more focussed on your things and move forward faster than ever.
By age 35, you know you just get started, you have a long way to go. Be inspired, positive and motivated to take short term pain in order to get long term gain.
What do you think about that, @diabolika?
True words.
That's what they say about the 35 and you should almost have lived everything and that way because it is not so there are no rules for that you say that someone graduated at 25 but has no job or someone already has a job at 25 but still do not graduate that it matters how things happen, you just have to be yourself and live your own experiences
I must say i can relate to the max i still have my 90's play list i got bout 2 -5 friends that really know me im always on the move i love to travel i dont have any books but i can did what your saying im glad to read your post
