I like many was attracted to the world of crypto currency by the promise of getting rich quick. Stories of the incredible growth the ecosystem has experienced. A growth that may or may not continue at such a rate. I was lucky though. Within hours of my first investment, the ethereum sell off occurred and the market started a down trend. It hit home, this was no get rich quick scheme.
Research, work, understanding and community are all key to this new part of the world.
Sure, in a way it was born out of discontent with the centralised banking system. Outrage at the effects the global sub prime crash of 2007, the longer term memories of the 80's recessions and those are just the English speaking countries. Across Asia, South America, Central America and the Nordic region, people have suffered at the hands of mismanaged centralised organisations. And to boot we "PAY" for the privilege of them making these mistakes, literally and figuratively.
However once I dug deeper under the surface, driven by the performance of the crypto, I started to comprehend the core philosophy of this economy. Decentralisation, removal of power from a central authority, and reduction in barriers to currency (third world countries) were part of it. In my exploration, it appears clear to me what the glue is, what the driving force is.
Community! Something Steemit users appear to embrace. A drive to work together, to be dependent on each other, to trust each other, to strive for a better system of wealth distribution and to let the "free market" finally operate without the constraints of those trying to take something off the top. Sure people will get paid and some will make more money than others but in the end it will be the people and the community who decide how that happens.
For in every tribe there was a chief, in every community a leader, they will come to the fore in this new community but they will only do so if acting for the greater good. I see this as one of the tenets of the @steemit community also.
Let's hope it continues in that vein, and let's pray for some of my ramblings to make sense.
