Hi I'm Danny! I'm travelling around the world! Follow my posts.
We arrived in what once was a tiny fishing village, and now, with a massive increase in tourism has become a popular place for visitors to Zanzibar.
This increase in visitors has given the local community in Jambiani a chance to work in the tourism industry.
The village is set back from the beach and is a bustling community. The houses here are cobbled together with dead coral, concrete, and any material the locals can find. A lot of the houses are unfinished too due to lack of resources, leaving many without a roof. The quickest way to finish an unfinished roof is by using palm leaves.
Jambiani is famous for it's really low tides, and for the incredible mixture of turqoise, blue, and greens in the ocean. From morning to evening the landscape is transforming as the tides go out for miles.
We stayed in a beautiful resort and spent the afternoon watching the tide come in. We we're lucky to have a Red Colobus monkey come and visit us - Zanzibar is one of the only remaining places in the world where you can see these monkeys.
We saw some fisherman going out in their traditional Dhow boat. Despite Jambiani's booming tourism some of the community still live their traditional lifestyle. We got to take a Dhow boat out on an awesome day trip snorkelling on coral reefs.
