I was reading an article yesterday about a man with a tattoo across half his face, that couldn't get a job (see photo below). I couldn't help but think about why do people get tattoos and why I would never get one.
I don't mean to sound judgemental, critical, or to offend anyone. I know some people are very passionate, proud, emotionally attached to their tattoos. People get tattoos for different reasons, to show love to someone, commitment to something, to show bravery, that they like body art etc etc. It is an individual choice, one that is to be respected whether or not you agree with it.
I was reading people's reasons for not getting tattoos, which range from medical (infection) to employment or military enlistment (where it's frowned upon), or the social stigma (some societies see people with tattoos as dangerous, with low character). There is also the reasons of tattoos being permanent, and people hesitating if they would feel the same about a tattoo at old age as they do now. Others may be afraid of needles, or worry how they will coordinate their outfits around their tats.
As for myself, I never felt attracted or tempted by the idea of getting a tattoo. I will never ever get a tattoo, not for any of the reasons listed above, but because I can express myself different ways. I can show my girlfriend I love her without getting her name/face tattooed on my body. I can live by the 'carpe diem' motto in everything I do, I don't have to get it imprinted on me. I can be stubborn and tough at times without having a barbed wire tattooed around my arm. And so on so forth.
Again, I don't mean to offend anyone, and I hope I haven't. Just wanted to share my personal views on tattoos, which is a matter of perspective, that's the beauty of life.
I would hope this doesn't offend anyone. I think it's a very reasonable, personal decision for you to make.
For me, I got my Tattoo to represent a specific moment in my life that I didn't want to forget. For me, it's a memory, which is all the more important because I have a pretty poor long term memory. My next Tattoo will be something drawn by my niece, as I'm currently living with my brother and his family.
Still, my choice is to keep them around my upper torso where they can be hidden. I don't want the hassle of a face Tattoo myself.
Completely agree with you, it is a personal decision and that is that. Hope your niece will draw something nice!
You've been UpVoted via the UpVote Experiment 002 Bot. Depending on my VP & the price of STEEM you should get a $.01-$.03 for your trouble.

I respect your ideals! Everybody think in different ways and are brought up in different environment, times or cultures.
I have allot of tattoos and love most of them.
That's great, if you're happy that's really all that matters. It is true, everybody thinks differently and comes from a different place, that's why communities like Steemit are great, to meet and hear such different views on different things.
You are right about some societies and countries view on tattoos even long hair on guys. When i lived in Tokyo there where a number of things i wasn't allowed to do because of my tattoos. For example some nightclubs wont let you in unless you cover the tattoos same with the onsen bath houses. The older generation in Japan associates tattoos with the mafia. I will write about that in my next travel blog...please have a look if you are interested in travel tips.
Haha! tattoos sure....across my face? Not so much.
Sometimes you just gotta wonder what people are thinking.
Isn't that so! Although gotta give the guy credit, he posted his story on Facebook, got a clinic that offered him free tattoo removal and a job!
@daddyworld, I am becoming more intrigued with tattoos but do not plan to get one. I am primarily thinking about the financial side of things.
Tattoos cost money. And lots of tattoos cost a lot of money.
And even though I am 37 years old, I still think I would give my mom a heart attack.
hi i agree with you .!
