Whilst at Heathrow last week things moved very quickly and we were through check in and security within minutes. I used to always allow a good 2 hours for this process like in Johannesburg that is not busy at all, but think they are.

Maybe a lot of the world is starting to realize that they actually CAN process a bunch of people if they genuinely want to but I just don't think that most of these operations cared at all whether or not you had to wait for hours or not in the past.
I think airports are all about profitability and hiring extra staff is not what they are about. My feelings are is the first impression of a country is important so having the quickest hassle free entrance should be a priority.
