Although it exceeded its operating plan by almost 15 years, we are sad to learn that the mission of the Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity has come to an end.
After having failed to respond to repeated signals sent since August 2018, on Feb 13th 2019 NASA declared that the Opportunity mission was complete.
"#ThanksOppy for being the little rover that could! A planned 90-day mission to explore Mars turned into 15 years of ground-breaking discoveries and record-breaking achievements." – NASA on Twitter
Little Oppy helped prove that there once was neutral water on Mars which could have sustained life, found the first asteroid on another planet and is holding the record for the longers-running Mars rover.
But we don't know for sure what happened to it, so there is still a chance that future rovers can bring it back. It might just be waiting for someone to bring it home.

Let us never lose hope just like Oppy never did!
