JUDGING A BOOK BY ITS COVER

in #life7 years ago (edited)

How do you pick a book?

My process is this;
1.scan the shelves "Oooh, what a cool cover!"
2.quick read of the blurb "Looks like my cup of tea!"
3.search on my Goodreads app "Over 4 stars, I'll take it!"

That's my latest method and I think it's way too judgemental. I really do judge a book by its cover. With that attitude I know I'm narrowing down my book finds and it's something I need to work on.

So, how do you pick a book?

Do you put much thought in to it? Or do you choose books through recommendation only? I've trusted some of the hype from Instagram before and I've been so disappointed! I once had a look on Youtube for 'Bookstagrammers,' and like most Youtube personalities I just found them way too in your face.

But then maybe getting lost amongst the book shelves trying to find that book that'll leave you thinking about its plot and characters for weeks, is what makes a book-lover love books.

Sort:

Guilty of cover ogles when I'm perusing but more likely off reviews or recommendations these days. Speaking of which, check.out my teeny contest.. might be a good way to find new books to read!

I've chosen way too many by their covers. Most have been good but I still find actually finishing a book-even if it's amazing. I've got more than 50 or so books and probably 70% of them are half finished. Works in progress :)

When I'm looking at books I don't know yet the cover (but even more the title of the book) is the first thing I see and influences if I even want to read what it is about.
Lately, recommendations on youtube and goodreads have been becoming a bigger influence since I have started to recognize who's taste is similar to mine.
