Out from the streets, into our hearts <3

Hi Steemers

I thought I would introduce you to our princess of 4 legs. Her name is Tili, she is a galgo or (Spanish greyhound) and she was adopted almost 5 years ago.

My husband and I were thinking about getting a dog and we agreed that with so many dogs needing a home it did not make sense to us to buy a puppy. We really liked greyhounds so we looked into it and found that there is a society dedicated to greyhounds adoptions. They bring most of them from Spain, where after the racing season the owners abandon the ones that lose. These are the lucky ones, the ones that if found on time by people that dedicate they lives to them, get another chance at finding a forever home where they are loved.

Tili in the shelter in Spain

Tili was lucky to be found. Her original name given at the shelter was Perejil (means parsley in Spanish) but it was mistaken by the Slovene as Peretil, which then was shortened to Tili.

The day we met Tili

We can only imagine what Tili went through. When we met her the first time everything scared her. She is ‘til this day a very shy dog. She fears most people approaching her. She fears most big dogs. She fears children. She feared our ferrets (we had 3 at the time we adopted her).

When we took her home, she would only eat at night, after we went to bed and the lights were out. It took her about 6 months for her to trust us enough to lay her head on top of us when laying down on the sofa with us.

The first time we were comfortable letting her “stretch” her legs.

She loves the snow

Now she is safe, but when I look her in the eyes I see always a sadness present. The only moments I see her being truly happy is when she is running or playing with other dogs, usually half her size 😊

She loves to run

I hope you have enjoyed her story.
