Taking Breaks, A Requirement for Wellbeing

in #life7 years ago

I used to work and work and work until my body would breakdown, forcing me to rest and recover. This cycle would play out year after year and at some point my body couldn't work anymore (the exact moment was when I got bit by the brown recluse! My system shut down!!).

I spent 2 years in recovery. I started going to the beach regularly, going on hikes regularly, and doing lots of yoga and meditation. My body began to feel better and I began to have energy again. Our 6 weeks in Mexico provided me the final healing required to come home INSPIRED and ready to WORK.

So last week I worked. And worked. I spent 4 days working ALL DAY. I did a HUGE spring cleaning of my converted school bus (still more to do!) and spent many hours working on projects for the Honestead Guru.

Somehow I filled my entire 2018 with travel, and now that I am home during one of my few weeks without travel, I am realizing that I need a break from TRAVEL! WHAT?

Balance, its all about balance. I think I am going to skip next weeks camping trip so I am rested for our big cross country drive to Libertopia in San Diego.

Yesterday I hit the beach, today I rest.

How do you unwind and take breaks?

Sort:

Yep, taking breaks becomes essential as we get older. I used to push and push and push to do more all the time.

A friend of mine gave me some amazing advice several decades ago. She told me to take Sundays off. I was always running around with my kids and felt haggard on the regular. Once I decided that Sundays were "my day" it made all the running around bearable. I always had Sunday to shuffle around and essentially do nothing (meaning: get up late, enjoy my coffee, read, nap, and just be).

What's better...choosing to relax regularly or being bedridden because you pushed until your body says "stop"?

And don't get me wrong, I like getting a million things done.....:-)

Yes, yes! I love that!!

Deep breathing, going out DANCING! Listening to music with the good headphones on, calling up a friend from far away. :)

Podcasts for me!!!
