Hiking at Mary More Searight Park in Austin, Texas

in #life7 years ago

Today was a great day for a hike! I had never been to Mary Moore Searight Park before, even though its less than 10 minutes from where we currently have our converted school bus parked. I was pleasantly surprised.

Check out the minnows living in this crack between to boulder rocks! The space was only a few inches wide, yet hundreds of minnows were living in there!!!!!

The truth is, the first seven summers I spent living in Austin were excrutiating when it came to the heat! This year, I guess I got used to it. I am genuinely happy to hike at high noon through any wooded area in Austin, and feel super blessed that many such hikes result in a nice dip into some cool water!

Mary Moore Searight had a relatively dry creek-bed that I spent the majority of my time hiking along side of. I did find a few areas with standing water that were full of life and fish. When I reached the end of the path I kicked off my shoes and waded in!
I then laid in the sun and listened to music with my feet in the water. It was glorious!

When I spend my days like this, I can honestly say that I no longer mind the heat!

This tree was amazing:

This is what most of the creek-bed looked like:

I was hiking mostly on terrain like this, although I did go pretty far off the beaten path toward the end and it became pretty rugged:

Found some old graffiti art - nothing super spectacular, but I did enjoy this one:
