Green Park is an upmarket estate in Athi-River. The estate got flooded after river Stoni Athi river burst it's banks. The estate had a perimeter wall but the massive force of the river destroyed it. What causes a river to burst ? This happens when there is more water upstream and in this case that was heavy rains, as it overflows downstream to adjacent low-lying area.
How can the risk of flooding be reduced? Green Park estate after being flooded,around 10 homes were affected,causing damage to the house and possession.

The estate is situated in a low-lying area. Such areas are very vulnerable because they flood easily.That's how the road looked like. Thousands got stranded on sides of Mombasa to Nairobi highway.
