★Down with Student Debt Week 2★

in #life8 years ago

Last week I brought up the idea of student debt,
to sort of start an open dialogue with some of it's issues

...and it raised so much awareness that it earned an author reward of $12.83

Estimates suggest average student debt in Canada is past the $25,000 mark.

Now I've only been in school for maybe a year and a half and I am already close to approaching that figure, I am a 22 year old taking Art and culture based courses, Philosophy, Writing, some astronomy and psychology. Classes that I feel help me contribute to being a more functional and helpful part of this world,

Im barley halfway done my studies and they are already asking me to start making payments on my debt and I am struggling to make my rent at the moment, I'm not writing this to directly ask for help, but more so to try and identify and wrap my head around an ongoing problem in our system,

I am now feeling like I may have made a big mistake getting involved with this unforgivable debt from the government thing.,

This week we're going to try and find an alternative solution for debt repayment while still being able to have the time to fully focus on the schooling when the time comes, maybe a whale out there needs someone to mix iced tea or walk their dogs, :p

I also wanna ask your opinions on variations of last weeks questions

1.Soo, you're already in debt, just go further in debt and continue your higher education?

2. Is there a way to get debt forgiveness or grants while in school?

3. Have you personally paid off student debt or in the process of doing so? -Was it worth it?

I for one had no choice, if i wanted to learn and go to school I had to take the risk- take on the loan and essentially condemn myself to years of struggling, but in return I got alot of confidence and faith in my own self and ability to make choices in my own life

Week Two

Current Student Debt: $25,000 CAD

-$12.83 = $24,987.17

..and in two days my payments start, so I am applying for a new student loan and returning to school,. I dont know how to tackle this, but hopefully I start gaining some traction or opinions through the steem community,

Hopefully im not still writing these posts months down the line, or this thing will start to become a social experiment, to crowd fund my philosophy education,

See you guys next week when we discuss student debt and the implications a little further, and give you guys an update on what we're receiving from the community to help,

Thanks for reading and for all the help,
resteems and donations are tremendous

also on a side note I am going to try promoting and seeing if that helps at all.

Hey @brado, gave you an upvote, wish it was worth more!

How do the government expect you to start paying back your loan while you are still in education? Dont they wait till you finish and get a job?

im really not sure, i was confused too, but im going through with payments anyways,. thanks for the upvote, ill probably be going till week 78,.. haha

brado, you keep an air of humor about your situation and are looking for direction. While i don't have the answer for you, surely you will find your way out of your situation of debt. Cudos to you for choosing interesting study subjects and for your admirable motivation for doing so. The only helpful perspective i can offer is that in months or years to come we will face another economic collapse. If then the Canadian Dollar will inflate, your debt will lose in significance as well. Good luck to you!
