The Match: Make every opportunity count.

I didn't plan to write on this initially but it kept coming back to me, I tried to knock it off my mind without any success. It was just another football match but it did not end the way I wanted.

It was on Saturday I was opportuned to watch a soccer match in my neighborhood. The two sides were evenly matched at the onset of the contest as there was nothing to seperate the two teams.

With time the Black team began to dominate the team in yellow, they sprayed passes with aplomb from one end of the soccer pitch to the other. They began to open up the Yellow team's defence without hitting the back of the net. The spectators responded by giving applause to the Black team for playing at such a high standard.

The team in gold were doing their best to curtail the attacks of the stronger team. They defended with their last breath and used every known trick to break up play and rhythm of the game.

The Black team had numerous chances to break the deadlock but missed their chances. Their was this incidence where the Black team's striker was played through on goal with only the goalkeeper to beat, the genius who opened up the defence also created space for a return pass but alas the striker wanted the glory for himself but wasted the opportunity. If he had returned the favour it would have been a simple tap into goal for his strike partner.

Around the eighty- fifth minute there was a momentary lapse in concentration in the Black teams defence and the Yellow team scored. They scored with their very first chance in the encounter. This demoralised the Black team and became jittery, soon the Yellow team scored another goal on the stroke of ninety minutes.

The Referee blew the final whistle shortly afterwards to the disappointment of most neutral fans. A fan reckoned that this is why Life is unfair. I kept asking that question too is Life fair?

Lessons learnt from the match

Try to make use of every opportunity you get.

Stop playing to the gallery, if you get applause do not relent in your effort and do not lose sight of your goal.

If a colleague or team mate is in a better position to take a shot or better equiped to manage a particular situation pass the baton.

A momentary loss of concentration or focus could be fatal.

When you experience a setback, do not dwell too much on it. Learn from your mistakes and get back up!

Do not become jittery, being doubtful, anxious and feeling sorry for oneself has never helped anyone through out the history of man.

Above all be optimistic, if you feel Life is unfair then it will be, if you feel its fair and you have a say in the outcome of events then so be it.

There are two quotes I really like from what you said.

Try to make use of every opportunity you get.
This is because if we do not use our opportunities, we might never get the chance again.
A momentary loss of concentration or focus could be fatal.
As Christians too, if we are not on guard at all times, we can easily be swayed away.

You didn't mention the name of the teams :)

Thanks for going through. These are neighborhood teams playing against each other here in northern Nigeria. Each team is being identified by their locality.

bro..i have little question...
can i ask you?

Yes go ahead.

Nice one. Coherent application.

Glad you like it.

Hi @blessedman939
I think its wrong to generalize that life is unfair. To some it seems unfair, to others it is fair and we unfortunately can't help it.

I totally agree with you. The fan made the assertion which triggered a question in me. This blog is the answer to that question sir. I do not support generalization of any sort. Also check out my last statement on the blog:

Above all be optimistic, if you feel Life is unfair then it will be, if you feel its fair and you have a say in the outcome of events then so be it.

Thanks for your input. One love bro.

I like this * When you experience a setback, do not dwell too much on it. Learn from your mistakes and get back up!*
We are products of our past, but we don't have to be prisoners of it. By seeking and blundering we learn. A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new.

Yeah...Nice point

I concur. Thanks for reading.

This quote really jolted me

A momentary loss of concentration or focus could be fatal.

This is the story of many and a clarion call to disallow distractions in any form. A great post.
