We've all heard the saying "The only guarantee in life is death and taxes." This may be true, but suffering is also unavoidable in this world. This is a world of suffering. Nobody wants to suffer, but suffering is apart of life. Today there are many organizations who try to help and alleviate all kinds of suffering in the world.  Unfortunately they are only concerned with the body and don't even consider the eternal soul. According to the vedas all living entities are subjected to three kinds of miseries in this world.

Adhyatmika is misery caused by the body and mind. When our body becomes diseased and sick we suffer, when we loose someone we love our mind can become very agitated and we feel great pain and suffering.

Adhibhautika is misery caused by another living entity. Today humans cause large amounts of suffering on millions of living entities all around the world. Appalling as it is, people are absolutely willing to starve, posion and kill other humans, including children, simply for profit and gain. What to speak of the continued suffering of millions of sentient beings being slaughtered daily simply to satisfy our taste for flesh.

Adhidaivika is misery caused by some higher authority. Insurance companies refer to this as an "Act of God". Floods, earthquakes, famine other natural disasters are all examples of this type of misery.
