Misconceptions people have about my jobs Challenge - Ayush as a developer

in #life7 years ago

Hey guys , I am back with this new challenge which aims to create awareness about jobs and careers to people around.
This will also give knowledge about myths people feel about that job
So basically I work as an ERP developer in a startup , for those who don't know about ERP , its just basically day to day software used in firms to create their records. The softwares that are used by Admins in manufacturing firms , The billing guy sitting in your local store , The softwares used by schools to maintain attendance
Etc.
But A lot of people got many misconceptions about coders and developers. So lets kill it one by one.

All Developers are rich
Internet and computers being at the most in need thing since 25 years essentially means IT holds the a big market. Considering 5 out of 10 people were Developers at some point of their life.
But that at all doesn't mean all Developers are rich enough.Like every other professions, say acting, we got our share of really talented developers who struggle to make their daily ends meet.A lot of Russian , Indian and Chinese developer make very low to average income at their early stages.

All developers are loners or introvert with No life
I thank Hollywood for that , Coders are always shown to be nerds , introvert and loners who hate to party and got no life.
Well thats not true at all .Yeah It's true like any other thing coding requires a lot of practice and dedication but that doesn't necessarily keep you away from fun . We do love get a lot of fun times and do party. And No our party games don't have games like nerd puzzles they are a the same as you.

If the developer is good enough all you need is to give an idea and he will give you a billion dollar product
If it was true there were millions of such billion dollars products in the world . If you trust me even software developers get a lot of ideas while sitting on toilet seat but a lot and a lot depends on execution as well , A proper unplanned product explained broadly will lead nowhere , the importance of good System Engineer(Someone who cant even write a single line of code ) comes in . He should be knowing all the in and outs of the product.

4. A good developer can create anything
"Dude I got an idea , since you are such a good coder can we develop 'insert random idea here'"
The degree of proficiency of anyone is totally dependent on the domain the developer works on .
Just like no matter how good is the Doctor he cant perform a heart surgery Why? Cause he is a Neurologist .An English teacher cant teach Maths
In similar way programmers do deal with certain level of expertise . You will be shocked to know I cant write a single line of code in Blockchain.
All I can code is ERP , some automation scripts and Web development. Now trying my hands on AI.

5. All good developers can hack any system
Well there are cases some coders proved out to be good hackers as well , but that doesn't mean we all are good hackers and hack Facebook just to check if your spouse is cheating on you .Most developers have zero to very less idea about security glitches , thats where the role of security analyst , network engineer comes in. Development is more like building a building and hacking is like being the intruder there. Yeah Its easy to intrude your own building considering only you know where is the open window. But no, intruding some one else's building requires extra skills.
So next time you ask me to hack about your girlfriends account and I refuse saying I cant I am saying the truth

6.We are necessarily good with Computers
NOPE. We aren't we cant fix if your skype sound not working or if you are having issues installing certain files you downloaded from internet and certainly we cant repair your Monitor. All we can do is code software out of functionality and algorithms.

Thanks for reading it with all the attention , I would like this concept to spread along so that people learn about new jobs and opportunities . I nominate @kubbyelizabeth @meno @dflo @soundwavesphoton, @staceyjean for this challlenge
