Unboxing my pre-ordered All-New Fire HD 10 Tablet with Alexa Hands-Free, 10.1" 1080p Full HD Display, 64 GB, Black with All-New Amazon Fire HD 10 Tablet Case (7th Generation, 2017 Release), Cobalt Purple.
My birthday is the 27th of October and my wife bought me this cool toy! It was pre-ordered and just arrived today.
Hmmm I must say that the box looks a little bit squished. Hopefully the contents are alright...
Upon opening the box I discover that the contents appear to be unscathed.
Whew! Good! :-)
Everything is looking fine...
Very exciting. I'm glad it's my day off so I can take my time with it.
Back to work tomorrow though so I better not stay up all night playing with it!
My previous Kindle was Kindle Fire HD 8.9", Dolby Audio, Dual-Band Wi-Fi, 32 GB (Previous Generation - 2nd) Which I bought January 31, 2013 and honestly I was so disappointed in it that I haven't even wanted to buy another Kindle...
I had taken to referring to it as "My Kindle Sucks". I would say things like, "Where's My Kindle Sucks?"
But it's been a few years and since I know from past reviews that Amazon continued to manufacture inferior products in relation to the Kindle Fire I feel the odds are very good that this product will be a better quality because too many failures in a row would cause them to loose (in my opinion) a significant amount of people wanting to purchase the Kindle Fire...
And so since my wife wanted to get me something special for my birthday, and she knows that I use "My Kindle Sucks" a lot, she thought to buy me this as a surprise.
And so here we are and I really do have high hopes for this product.
Already I can tell you that it feels significantly lighter than "My Kindle Sucks". That really matters after a while of holding it while reading, so that's a big plus.
A feature that I was hoping it would have because I use it a lot is the ability to read a book aloud, i.e. text to speech in kindle books. When I looked at the specs online it didn't mention it and I was hoping that it wasn't a feature that had been removed, but upon inspection of this unit I am happy to report that, that functionality still exists.
The cover I bought with it looks pretty good, and has a nice feel. I chose the purple color for the cover.
I think it's pretty.
I like pretty. :-)
My wife @yenmoon is unboxing it with me today and is helping to take some of these pictures. :-)
Let's take it out of its plastic!
As I welcome it to my world and introduce it to its new home...
Hello little Kindle Fire latest and greatest! I hope we can be friends! :-)
Let's press the power button and wake it up!
It's had a long trip from factory to me. I wonder what country it was made in. Probably China. Ni hao my new friend! :-)
Ooooooh it's waking up!
I think it likes me! :-)
Hey it knows my name! :-)
How cool is that?
Here's a shot of the little flyer enclosed.
Just going through the process of setting it up. Answering questions in regards to which options to choose, like do you want it connected to something called goodreads and facebook and twitter. No I Don't!
I'll look at "GoodReads" later and decide, but it's a definite NO in regards to FB & twitter.
Hmmmmm yeah I guess I'll just hook up to the Amazon Prime for the next month so I can get more out of my new toy in relation to movies etc. I can always cancel before they charge my card for the next month if I don't feel it's worth it. :-)
Now let's check out the pretty purple case.
Hmmm I like it and it goes on the unit really easy! :-)
Yup so far so good! Pretty and functional is what I'm looking for.
So it's pretty enough but let's see about real and lasting functionality. It's easy to be mislead by a review of a product where the user has only had it for a day or so because unless it is obviously complete trash the user just won't know until they've had a chance to use the device for a while.
So just to let you know, it is my intention to do a bit more writing about this product after I've had it for a few months. That will give me a much better idea, but right now at the point of this unboxing, yeah I'm liking it a lot. :-)
Hopefully that will still be the case in a few months from now. I'll let you know! :-)
In the above photograph I am locating the text to speech control for the Kindle books. Very happy to find that.
Here I am continuing the introduction that appears when you turn on your unit for the first time.
In the video advertisement for this unit it spoke of something called "Alexa" and promoted it as a "hands free" way of interacting with your Kindle. Yeah that sounds good. Let's activate the "hands free" option.
Here's just a picture of my "Home screen"...
Here's "My Kindle Sucks" beside my new super awesome unit.
Hmmmm Alexa "Hands Free" isn't working... What's up with that? I begin to grow vaguely concerned that I may end up referring to my new toy as "My Kindle Sucks 2.0"
Fortunately @yenmoon has way more patience than me and is technologically advanced and quickly surfs out the solution to the challenge! She then proceeds to walk me through the fix.
Go to "settings" and then "device options" and then "system updates" and then just update the system which gives life to the Alexa "Hands Free" Option!
Whew! Thanks sweetheart! :-)
Aaaaand now it's time for me to go play with and explore my new toy!
See you next time! :-)
Thanks for checking out my post! :-)
Dear reader If you enjoyed this posting please UPVOTE/FOLLOW it really helps!
Thank you. :-)
Nice unboxing. I, personally, don't know how this is "pretty" because it looks the same as almost every other tablet device on the market. I miss my Kindle from years back, the original version, with the space-age look and white surface. I loved the aesthetics on it... these newer ones just look the same, not unique.
Thank you for stopping by and for your great comment! :-)
When I say "pretty" I'm really referring to the color of the case. I like the color and to me it's pretty. :-)
As for the unit itself yeah I like the looks of it too, but I guess I wouldn't actually call it pretty unless it was in it's case. :-)
I do agree they have a nice-looking case.
Thanks again for your comment! :-)
Wishing you a happy night! :-)
