The court has rejected the bail plea of BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in the court of Narail on behalf of the number of martyrs in the war of liberation war and controversial speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Narail District and Sessions Judge Sheikh Abdul Ahad gave the order after hearing the bail hearing on Tuesday.
BNP's International Affairs Secretary Advocate Masud Ahmed Talukdar on behalf of Begum Khaleda Zia confirmed that the bail petition has been rejected on the ground that the case was not properly presented and the order has been rejected. The Narail court rejected the bail application for the second time in this case.
It may be mentioned that on May 30, on behalf of Begum Khaleda Zia, Advocate Masud Ahmed Talukder applied for bail, the court fixed Tuesday on Tuesday for bail hearing.
According to the case details, on December 24, 2015, Raihan Farooqi Imam of Tapail village of Naragati Police station of Narail filed a defamation suit against Narail Sadar Court in the name of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia. On August 23, 2016, the court ordered Khaleda Zia to appear before the court in self-government. An arrest warrant was issued against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia not being present in the court at the scheduled time. Earlier on July 25, the same court issued a summons against BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
It is also mentioned in the case details that, on 21 December 2015, Begum Khaleda Zia, in her speech at the liberation war in Dhaka, said there is a debate over the number of 3 million martyrs in the war of liberation. Apart from mentioning the name of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the same rally, Khaleda Zia said she did not want independence. Pakistan wanted to be Prime Minister, independent Bangladesh did not want. His remarks were circulated in various newspapers and electronic media. The plaintiff of the case, Raihan Farooqi Imam of village Chapail of Narail was seriously mad at the news of the Narail District Bar Association Society. After Raihan Farooqi filed a lawsuit against the Khaleda Zia on December 24, 2015, she filed a case with the Narail Sadar General Court.
Meanwhile, another defamation suit was filed in the court of Narail on November 29, 2015 in the name of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia on controversial remarks on the number of martyrs in the Liberation War. Besides, a case of defamation was also filed in the name of BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Rai, on the same day (December 29th) for his controversial speech about martyr intellectuals. The case was filed by Shaheed Sheikh Jamal National Smriti Parishad's central committee general secretary Kalia upazila's Shaheed Ashik Billah of Kalia area.
