WHO is not familiar with the model of denim pants called jeans (jeans). This pants may be the most popular in the world because it can be used for any activity regardless of age.
In addition to a simple model, jeans also fit with any model of clothing. The material is relatively strong and easy maintenance makes this type of pants favored many people.
Before discussing more, what's the difference denim and jeans? As quoted many sources, denim is the material while the jeans are the product.
In history, jeans were first worn by sailors and gold miners from California, USA. Denim itself comes from the word "Serge de Nimes" which is a city in France. While the word jeans comes from "Genoese" which is the name for the sailors from Italy who always wear blue clothes while sailing.
Although commonly used, there are four facts about jeans that apparently are not widely known. Here are the facts:
1. Jeans dye material from Indonesia
The blue color of jeans is the result of dye (dye) from indigofera plant, which is used since 2,500 years before Christ. Indigovera name itself means blue gold, and Indonesia is the largest indigovera supplier in the world.
In Indonesia, indigofera is also called the tilapia plant. In addition to dye, this plant is also often used as animal feed because it contains many nutrients.
The first indigofera plantations in Indonesia are in Wonogiri and around Ambarawa, Central Java. In 1830, during the time of forced cultivation by colonial colonists, this plant became a compulsory option after coffee, rubber, sugar cane, and tea.
2. Should not be washed too often
If there are clothes that are most rarely washed, then jeans would be one of them. Apparently, a very beautiful fading results will appear when rarely washed jeans.
Fading means faded or lines that appear in jeans. The term commonly used is pastel.
Apparently, this fading can be characteristic for the owner because fading can occur because of the friction on certain parts.
According to Chip Bherg, CEO of Levi Strauss, frequent washing denim pants this will damage the material. The reason, this material ideally will survive well if not washed for six months. Even if there is a dirty stain attached to this material, he said, simply rinse with rubbed by a toothbrush on a dirty area.
3. A small pocket on jeans
The little pocket in this jeans turned out to have a function. As quoted from the official website of Levi Strauss, the small pocket is used for the cowboys to keep their pocket watches.
As is known, in its history, Levi's first product is indeed devoted to gold miners. Its function is to store small gold grains.
Although the times of the pocket watch and gold mining have passed, the existence of the little pocket is still preserved. One of those little pocket functions now is to save coins.
4. Costly and historic jeans
Increasingly faded jeans are more expensive when sold. Of course this applies on terms that should not be washed frequently. Not only that, the brand and duration of usage also affect the value of a pair of jeans.
This was proven when the auction of jeans with Levi's 501 series jeans on the Ebay site in 2005. At the auction, the jeans sold for Rp 625 million to a Japanese jeans collector who did not want to be identified....
Levi's series that auctioned it was made in 1873. Condition is still intact despite the many fading and holes in some parts. However, these jeans are considered to have a high historical value.
