Curiosity And About Sharing The Marvel Of The World

It is stronger than me. A deep greed for knowledge. A need to quench that thirst of understanding every little bit of the world. With a sense of passion, of wonder of the microscopic world and macroscopic universe.

Have you ever felt such emotions ? That, somehow, you got thrown to an exciting party, where every tiny details is filled with beauty ? So much in fact, you have the feeling, or the duty I must say, to share it to the world ?

I do.

Such treasure can’t be kept away from us ! It would be sad, to see life through a grey, tasteless filter. We can see, touch, hear… We can walk ! and reflect about that crazy fact ! Have you ever stopped to a grain of salt, a leaf or to the newly grown grass during Spring ? When the sun is hitting the soil, bringing to you all these fragrances to smell, touch and see ? Have you ever wondered at the night sky, reflecting on the mystery of it, the infinite expanding of an universe we can’t even fathom.

FRUSTRATION

If you feel as I feel, then you also know what comes after sharing these thoughts to someone : “Meh.”
If you’re lucky enough, maybe you’ll get a “Cool.” Frustrating.
And because of that, I feel stuck in my head. Unable to share the love for life. Like no one wants to see that. While my theory is a denial and fear of death, explaining why we don’t want to talk about topics that would confront us to the fleeting moment of our life….

But to be honest, I don’t understand that. Why does it seem so uninteresting ? (If you are this kind of person, please, I would love to know why). Why is it unappealing to you ?

I don’t know. And it drives me crazy ! And this is a problem I try to grasp as a solution must exist. How can people relate to the beauty of Life ?

REFLECTION AND CURIOSITY

Art comes to mind. Many artists use their mediums to share their visions. They write, talk, dance, sing, draw, paint… To express themselves. I guess if we can’t pass our message in one way, we must try another one until we find the right technique ?

We know that curiosity is important matter. As artists, we are told numerous times about the huge benefits to be curious, to ask questions, to learn again and again and again. Being exposed to countless domains, fields of research brings the art to another level. It creates patterns within the brain, the ones Charlie Munger (co founder of Berkshire Hathaway with Warren Buffet) would call mental models (Latticework).

Interesting principle, it is a multidisciplinary approach to a given situation. By learning core principles of many skills and fields, we learn to be more efficient to solve problems. While he is referring to financial worlds, his words are nonetheless important for any domains. Let’s take concept art and design in example :

In order to design a space marine in a fantasy universe, I can’t just look at Artstation references. the end product will be the copy of a copy of a copy, giving us a bland, soulless drawing with no interest at all. But looking at real life references, understand how these references work, bring us a new layer of imagination based on rock solid facts. It grounds the subject, making it believable by the audience. Knowing how spacecrafts work, what is space, what would our soldier wear for space battles that will allow him to survive in void conditions while having near medieval technology (and some magic) ?

For Charlie Munger and Warren buffet, the results of such a strategy is no secret. They managed to do wise investments by understanding deeply their subject and how it interacts with the world in a wider way. But same apply in every fields. Whether concept art and design, Vitaly Bulgarov in example, designed the transformers for the movie and is also working with companies such as Boston Mechanics to design their robots. He also signed a mech for a korean company. Or Bushido (One of the core concepts of Miyamoto Musashi, best samurai ever and one of Japan’s hero is to be open minded, curious and always be interested in other subjects), it is a moral duty to apprehend the world from more than one lense to expand our horizons. As the old saying goes :

Every problem looks like a nail for someone with a hammer.

A POWERFUL TOOL

Why is it moral duty ? The more models we understand, the better is our grasp of the world. As nothing is individual nor set in stone. It creates in our brains connections to create new solutions, new ways of thinking and a broader view. In the end, we can have a small insight that many situations are not so different one to another. The basic principles apply in many cases.

The discipline of drawing everyday, the importance of fundamentals, everything is not only black and white but a detailed, intricate and subtle world of values are some of the lessons one can learn through painting and connect to combat sparring training in example.

Same thing if you want to learn a new skill, we never begin from scratch but instead, we pick in our last experiences, we look for differences or affinities these bring us a new perspective, and a way to learn faster, better.

This is one idea on how far can curiosity take us to. An epic journey of lifelong learning. Of constant awe towards the most insignificant things.

All is left to do is change this raw jewel into a shareable story.

My question then is, how do you do that ? How do you find your toolkit to communicate efficiently ? Share your methods, ideas, experiences in the comments !
Also, what are the things that make you stop in awe ? Or the ones you just don’t give a coconut about and why ?
