A sense of belonging

Our ancestors, and distinctly many American Indian tribes once held the tradition of a young mans “Right of Passage”. This was a young teens watershed moment of youth. The knowledge in knowing the moment was growing closer, placed every action and thought of each day into becoming a true warrior. Nothing was more important than honing one’s skills to be able to perform to the elders satisfaction. Failing to show one’s manliness and hunting skills sufficiently would forever shelter their activities within the womens camp for a certain lifetime of basket weaving and fire tending.

All young warriors knew that it was their responsibility to help provide food, protect the tribe and to find a future mate. There were no subdivisions, no uncertainty of what your place was, no feelings of separation from your support system. All young women knew their duties to keep the camp in functional harmony and their men looked after. In perfect balance, everyone had a sense of belonging.

We see can see a perfect example of this desire to belong to “something bigger” in modern mankind’s want of military service. The youth yearn to be a part of something bigger than themselves. The return to the tribe and a “Right of Passage” all wrapped up into on package, all the while cluelessly mapping themselves a DNA encoded hero’s journey.

Most of us desire to be a part of something bigger than ourselves, our lives. Even the Beatles one day awoke to find themselves spiritually absent and in search of direction within this magical mystical tour. One could easily have said, that they had everything anyone could ever desire.

Our modern civilization has wrestled away the family farms from our grips and buffered the closeness to the land that once was just about everyone’s birthright. The all encompassing nurturing presence that mother nature provides our senses within daily interaction is but just one part of this “something bigger” missing link. A true evidential knowing that you have a place in something bigger as you grow from childhood into a mature adult completes the other side of natures contribution beckoning its call from beyond the monolith. We are man and woman and have evolved with vital encoded connections that must be nurtured if we are to deservedly inherit a place in the stars.

Nurturing our children’s connections to this reality so they are well learned, mature and comfortable in their own skins is the goal. When one is connected to their own family, they can be connected to their community, when one is well connected with their community, one can be better connected to a foreign land, when one can be comfortable in foreign places, one can be comfortable with their world and when one can be comfortable with their world, one can be comfortable with their place in the universe. It’s an ultimately necessary and simple progression.

Writing a formula

We must start writing “Rites of Passage” programs for our children that can learn to be accepted by the community as a whole. Some suggestions I have as a basic beginning would be in the following bullet points. The “Rites of Passage” would usually be done by a community program that the participating parents oversaw. These “Rites of Passage” would need to be taken seriously and be a “Big Deal” in the child’s life in order to be effective.

  • Age 11 – “Rite of Passage” - Becoming a Teenager –

  • Age 12 - “Rite of Passage” - Learning how the universe can work with you Part 1.

  • Age 14 - “Rite of Passage” -

A full and complete understanding of puberty and everything that is involved. As kids reach puberty and the dating game arises, we allow our children complete access to harms way and wanton stupidity when we don’t allow these kids to understand what is happening to them. When is the correct time to have “that talk”, well it seems like most parents never get around to it. Children learn from children, mythical TV and the internet. A major evolution in our civilization will begin the moment we learn to master a meaningful approach for the children to understand what is happening to them during puberty, learning the responsibilities that go along with becoming an adult and learning what intimacy is. Come on now this is urgent. There are robots out there now. These kids are gonna need help. This acceptance of this type of “Rite of Passage” as a cultural milestone will be a game changer for civilization. Who’s gonna start writing this one? Let’s go people. The future of our planet is at stake!
  • Age 15 - “Rite of Passage” - A month on the farm. Learn how food is grown and how nature works.

  • Age 16- “Rite of Passage” - Learning how the universe can work with you Part 2.

  • Age 18 - “Rite of Passage” - Adulthood – Time off before higher education or career moves. Planned and supervised travel. Philosophy, wisdom teachings, etc.

We have some big tasks ahead of us as a whole of humanity. We must heal unnatural divisions that have been sowed amongst us, discover a more viable civilization, make great discoveries, heal our planet, heal our bodies and heal our connection with each other and our children. Our kids need to learn to play once again in the world of imagination, wonder, the outdoors.

As kids, we played in the pine straw, helped dad in the garden, built tree forts with nails too short, so some early physics and gravity lessons were scattered in the experiences. I learned to appreciate and ride horses, body surf and learned to set up 1000 plastic green army soldiers in the hillside that even 100 firecrackers could not defeat! My generation seemed to be the last of the “play in the dirt” kids. I now see children living in neighborhoods with no woods to play in while spending all of their time bent over their cell phones tapping away in phrase conversations with the kid sitting next to them and wiping their hands with anti-bacterial wipes. Deep thinking going on. I keep thinking that this is the end of the cycle and function junction is fixing to swing back around for us. Nothing to worry about, I’m thinking “This will end like Disco did”. I have high hopes. I really do. What could go wrong?

Out with the old

The Prussian education system was adapted around 1820 by the powers that be. This system was put in place because a war was lost due to the independent thinking of the soldiers. The soldiers were just not following stupid orders, so an new education system was devised to make kids respect authority and to follow orders. The entire education system of today is a direct enhancement of this original concept.

Instead of inherently knowing and acting on what is right by one’s senses, we are conditioned to “follow the leader”. The one main action that humanity must all perform, is an immediate about face with this type of education. We have seen the results. This needs to stop and a new begin.

Homeschooling, private schooling using innovative education systems, “Rites of Passage” embedded within the culture, more agriculture in everyone’s lives and more meaningful work for adults will all be the way of the future that will succeed. Critical thinking needs to applied on much that lies ahead. Any paths humanity drifts down toward trans-humanism will certainly have dark grave karmic repercussions.

We must remain vigilant and steadfast through these times or we may one day be issuing “Rites of Passage” to others saying:

Resistance is futile, Prepare to be assimilated into the collective.
