Life long lessons (School) - by @dragonslayer101

in #life7 years ago

I have never enjoyed school, but that is normal for most people. School is a subject that many students hate. Ever asked someone how their day at school was. The answer is generally, "it was school" or "alright" and that is where that conversation ends.

But why is school so bad? Is it the teachers? Is it the students? Is it the work? Or is it our fault?

When I was in school I enjoyed a some days, but these were always days that something exciting happened or I discovered a new adventure. I remember sitting in on of my English classes and thinking to myself, "what on earth is the point of all this? I am never going to use this subject in my life" but this was not the only class I thought about in this way.

Life Orientation, LO, my most hated class where we learnt about life... Where 10% of your grade mark was based on how near your book looked. But on day one I made sure that the teachers new that my book would look bad, thus they never even asked for my book. What I hated most about the class was that it taught useless lessons to me, drugs, smoking, drinking and sex. These were things I was taught years before never to do, but what made it worse is that these thing get taught each year at school. So this became one of my "catch up on sleep" classes.

To me school felt like a prison, my inner adventurer forced to sit down and do the same thing day in and day out for weeks. Surly there must be a better schooling system for people like me, this I often thought to myself. But after years of struggling against the system I finally gave into it and started to enjoy school a whole lot more. I found reasons to love school, the caring teachers, the fun activities, the students and even the work (but only some classes). I always hated English and LO and always will.

Only at the end of my schooling did I realise that it was my fault for not enjoying school. Only once my attitude had changed was I able to realise that it is not everything that happens around me that determines my happiness, but the way I deal with these things. I hope that we will all have the right attitude.

i miss my school time, mostly university

the problem of school is that it don't really teach you the work life. like school is disconnected from reality life

Looks like those English classes turned out to be quite useful after all huh?

I am not fully with you here. I think that a lot is dependent on teachers for students to enjoy being in the school

I miss my high school years but i gotta admit, it was boring at a time

I strongly believe there is a problem with our current education system, but people also should not rely on any school system to be the sole source of a child's development. I have sat through a few school board meetings in my life and there usually isn't a whole lot of communal support, aside from an occasional group with a specific agenda who plead their case and leave. Parents have the ability to influence what goes on at school, however the sad truth is nobody really cares too much. So I say, "Blame the parents!"

a surprise is Steem will continue to increase because people are realizing the importance and value of Steemit, which is fired crazy with cristomania, and we have to continue to support, all the friends that enter the steemit, for being our allies, in the network and our future and every day more we learn something new. Thanks for news and Steemit is promoting to achieve great success.

do not worry bro shortly you'll see that time will pass quickly!

Thanks for sharing your past here in this post. I am by profession a teacher. I really respect your thoughts, but we humans have to accept realities of one's position at every stage. We have different feelings as a student. But we teachers are bound to follow the regulations set forth for us by the departments.
Now a days I remember one of my teacher's words,"Put yourself in the shoe of others and then think how it pinches other."
Stay blessed

I enjoyed my school life

I hated school when i was there, 18 years later i would live to go back. You dont know what you have till its gone.

Yes life in old ago 18 year day in school, which life in no more tenshion its almost free its amazing, i thankfull ti you abot shere your school day

Yes beacuse our school programme is out of date and useless. Ask Scandinavian schoolers about this and most of them like school... and here is ofcourse mentality included.

i like this motivation. i think it is helpfull post..
thanks for shareing..

yeah, we don't value the thing that we have, but when it is gone we feel the value of it, but that sometime can't be undone.

School is one of the most important/if not the most important aspect of our lives, which most of us take for granted, if we all know without school we all would not be here on @stemmit. I know of 3 things that might be the cause of hatred for school e.g
1.Teachers
2.Subject/course, and most especially the
3.Schools .

These are good questions and interesting topic to discuss. Have you ever researched Finnish school system? If not I highly recommend it!

I understand what your are expressing. I felt this way too, well I was bullied so I really didn't like it,but we have moved all over the country so that didn't really help either. I was always the new girl and once I started to make friends, we left. School was more of a day care for me but own I got older we finally moved to Ohio and stayed here for my senior year. Even though It was hard for me, I felt the most at home then I have ever. I knew it was a good decision and after a few weeks, I begun to see how school is good for you and how much I actually have learned.

i am a teacher but before being one, i was also sa student ofcourse. so, i know how you feel as i see that with some of my students. although i myself has always enjoyed school - except studying for exams and writing my thesis. but youre right about the reasons why people fail and never become happy. the antitode to #3 is the solution for every reason - be grateful. theres just so much to enjoy about schooling! always find a motivation to enjoy and learn.

Truth is, even the best students had issues with school too because of the stress, school teaches u mostly class room facts and not reality.

But other things like your friends, circles and maybe any extra curricular activities could have spiced it up.

Excellent advice on how to fail :-). Thanks for sharing how your thinking gradually changed....

I also keep on asking myself why do I need to go to school in very long years, it is actually a draining thing, but you know what I come to realize that having a diploma, It actually made someone respect you, and it is easy for you to get a job and of course you will learn about values and life as well,

Don't worry schooling will be worth it :D
just enjoy it @africaunited

Xoxo :)

I was once told that when I get older, i will look back on school and realize those were the best days of my life...no worries, no "adult" responsibilities...just the opportunity to inspire myself for the present and future. Then, I didn't believe it for a minute...now, at 40, I truly do understand what all that meant.

It probably boils down to obligation or choice. I didn't like school when I was there, was always the kid being bullied, the slowest, the fattest, the stupidest, the one who forgot to do homework, the first to get punished for the same crime, etc.

Then decades after leaving school I went back to university, enrolled in an undergrad course, and absolutely love every lesson. They may be boring (stuff I learned 20 years ago), exciting (new discoveries taught to students nowadays that didn't exist when I was one), amazing (the "other" method)... but what really makes it fun for me is that I chose to be there.

University is by far the most interesting part of my life - it's super hectic and full of challenges, but I absolutely love the grind!

Attitude is everything. There are so few teachers that are gifted enough to bring out the curiosity in a young person. Thank you. 🐓🐓
