The Blockchain didn't reward them by itself. The Whales actively intervened to upvote them massively to ensure they see the potential of the system. If not, they'd be the same as any other plankton or minnow uploading to DTube for the first time.

The hope is that they will then go on YouTube to talk about this great new platform "DTube" and bring their followers here. It's active, indirect advertising by DTube.

However in the future, when the landscape is more even (fingers crossed), the blockchain will work as you said.
