Steem, the blockchain Akasha

in #life7 years ago

Akasha, according to Wikipedia, is the term used in the Indian cosmology for space or ether, but another meaning of it in the Modern reception is the cosmic memory which is very often named "Akashic records" or "Akashic library". A library where everything that has ever happened, thought or imagined is stored and there is the place where karma takes its "documentation" to act. But generally when I think of Akasha I think of some "spiritual cloud storage" with no memory limit from which nothing can be lost and accessible at any time...for some of us.

Now the first question that might rose out of one's mind is how can anyone access that type of information or is it possible? Everything is possible, in my opinion, but not for everyone. First of all I will state that clear that I am not one of these who can do that just to take take out of the way. Second, yeah, I do believe that there are this type of people able to read some info from there, but nothing can be proved and the intent of the post was not to make it a spiritual/esoteric one. It's about Steem the blockchain and another reason that makes it great for me.

When it comes to memories, especially personal ones, almost everyone has some classic pictures from childhood taken at some events or just with no particular reason so "the need" for us to save our precious pictured memories is as old as we are. With the steps forward taken by technology, however, the way we save and immortalize our photos and memories has evolved alot and one of the most known and available ones is Facebook, where billions of people around the world have saved their memories and pictures and are accessible for them at any time. For now. But, in my opinion, Facebook won't have a too long life span and it's already ageing and getting outdated as we speak, so, what's the better alternative?

Blockchain. Or should I say, the blockchain based Steem, that about a million users take advantage of it every day. That's the new Akasha, for me, and I will point out why so you don't think I am just making free advertising for the platform, although it deserves that too.

First of all, blockchain technology will prevail for much more time than whatever servers and ways of storage Facebook uses, thus I consider it a much better on long term alternative. Plus, the Steem blockchain, is in the hand of the people so it will be around here for ages, as long as there will be interest for it, and there will be people available to "host it" on their computers. On the other hand, in comparison with Steem, Facebook is governed by a few, its life is decided also by these few and of course censored by these few. So, Steem-Facebook: 1-0.

Another reason why I consider Steem the akasha of ones memories with not only pictures uploaded, as generally is the case for Facebook, is the way one stores his/her pictures and memories. I used both the platforms, but never have I wrote that much to express my feelings on a picture post on Facebook the way I do on Steem. Every personal type of post that I do around has a variety of details and feelings expressed in it that makes me consider them as immortalized episodes of my life. Something that it's accessible to me "as a whole episode" or better said as a piece of time immortalized, rather than just moments, with all the details and connections around it. Something that I would like to re-view twenty years from now and could help me access these episode with much more details and vibrancy.

Now, ending the article I realize that I might have exaggerate a bit with my Steem-Akasha analogy, but I am sure you get my point of view and what I am referring to when comparing this platform with that Hindu spiritual term and concept. I am completely aware that I will never "save" on Steem everything around me and all of my opinions and concepts, but I am sure that this is the kind of memories album that I want to have over decades for some of them. That's how I plan to "immortalize pieces of me" and don't see any other better packed alternative version than this one. That's the kind of digital akasha that I am using, right now, and hopefully access over years.
