India has a very diverse culture and we are proud of our culture.
In India, we consider marriage very pious and essential part of any person's life.
Ideally, people consider a woman who is 23 + to be eligible to get married, unless she is studying by that age.
30 (Thirty Years) is an absolute limit for them.
Parents, relatives, friends and every known person, keeps a tab of a girl who is unmarried and always has some advice to share.
A pet dialogue from anyone who comes to know that a woman is not married, even though she is settled, is "Don't you care for your parents? How tensed they must be?"
And, it is true. Indian parents are tensed if their daughter is single by the age of 30.
Every woman wants to marry someone she is comfortable sharing her life with. In case, she is not able to find such a person, she should be ALLOWED to remain single, irrespective of her age. However, in many Indian homes, this is not an option. Many girls get married in arranged marriage setup, without even knowing the person she is marrying.
So many working women today do not feel the need to have a man in their life. Many of them would not get married, if allowed to. But if they try to do so, they will probably be responsible for High BP of their father or increasing diabetes levels of their mother. This guilt makes so many women chose to marry at a time when they are at the peak of their careers i.e. at a time when they should be concentrating on career, they have to start concentrating on in-laws and husband.
I know this may not be the case with everyone and hopefully many of the ladies would be happily married. But I know quite a few souls, absolute free birds, who feel like their feathers got clipped too early with wedding bells.....(sigh)
A woman can be happy even when she does not have a man in her life and same goes for men as well.
This is something which we need to explain to our society in India and bring a change in mindset.
One should marry, because of love or feeling to be together. Not because some time bomb clock is ticking.
Staying single can be fun. Staying single can be empowering. Staying single can be a away of life.
Staying single when you are 30+ can also be an option, equally viable.
Marry if you want. Stay single if you wish to. Our parents need to say this and relatives should just mind their business..
Have a beautiful day and show a smiling face....
