Before taking baby steps towards co-creating liberty...

in #liberty8 years ago

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

I've contemplated the notion of liberty for over 50 years. Thought about it, gave up on the idea as being unrealistic, read everybody from Mises to Hyack to John Hospers. Interesting, difficult and inspiring. Heck, I even voted Libertarian very often or Green if there was not a Libertarian running for a particular office. I've always voted third-party in the USA. That has been the extent of my liberty activism until I hit a brick wall mentally and psychologically in 2006. I floundered, got into therapy, went to various programs to try and find a job so I could pay my way. Therapy sucked, I couldn't find a job to save a soul. I thought that I was reasonably intelligent and reasonably motivated but nobody would GIVE me a job and none of the programs run by the nanny state and various corporations GAVE me any help or relief, except that I did go to a shrink who put me on Klonapin and Zoloft for my anxiety and depression. With little money and little hope I was truly depressed and anxious. I took to begging and mooching from friends and even strangers. I managed to keep from being homeless. Let's see now, liberty in our lifetime and dependency on the state, expecting someone to GIVE me a job, just does not add up!

I was living in one of the most expensive places in the world, Brooklyn, NY. Then one night, in the middle of the night a light-bulb went off in my head. A few years earlier I read an article by some crazy guy who had the idea of getting a bunch of libertarians to move to New Hampshire. I filed it away in the recesses of my brain and forgot about it until December 2015.

To be continued....
