Have you ever wondered how the Liberland Congress operates? You’re not alone!
Many people are curious about the inner workings of this unique governing body. Let’s dive into what makes the Congress tick and who the key players are in this fascinating system.
Where It All Happens
The Liberland Congress connects and communicates through various platforms. The most active discussions take place in a closed Telegram group, where members collaborate and share ideas. There’s also a public Signal group for petitions, but it’s not as busy. To streamline communication, an official email, congress@liberland.org, is being set up. This email will be the go-to place for citizens and others to submit suggestions, petitions, or ideas for Congress to consider.
When does the Congress meet? Every Monday at 16:00 CET. These meetings are currently closed to the public to ensure efficiency, as the Congress is still in the process of building a solid foundation. The goal is to become a well-functioning, constructive body that serves the interests of Liberland and its citizens.
Key Positions in the Congress
The Liberland Congress has three distinct roles that stand out:
Prime Minister
Prime Member
Speaker
These roles operate independently of one another, each playing a crucial part in the Congress’s functionality.
The Prime Minister
The Prime Minister is the most important figure in the Congress and, theoretically, the entire country. According to Liberland’s draft Constitution, the Prime Minister leads the government. Although the exact structure is still being developed, the Prime Minister’s role in Congress is largely informal. They represent the Cabinet, propose legislation for Congress to review, and guide referendums.
Currently, this vital position is held by Justin Sun.
The Prime Member
The Prime Member is another significant role, automatically assigned to the Member of Congress with the highest Liberland Merit (LLM) vote during elections. The Prime Member’s unique power lies in influencing the outcomes of official votes. If a member remains silent during a vote, it is automatically counted as agreeing with the Prime Member’s position. While this power is dormant when Congress members are active and vocal, it becomes influential in a less engaged Congress.
The current Prime Member is also Justin Sun.
The Speaker
The Speaker’s role is all about organization. This person is responsible for preparing the Congress’s agenda, sessions, and meeting programs. Unlike the Prime Minister or Prime Member, the Speaker is informally chosen by the Members of Congress. At present, this role is held by Michal Ptáčník.
