I long for the day most people realize the source of information has nothing to do with its truth. Similarly, I want a future where demographics aren't considered a mark of merit, and things are appreciated or diminished based on quality, and not "representation". I'm seeing leftists tearing down Black Panther for not representing LGBTQ+ enough. Enough! It wasn't enough to get angry with THE CREATOR of Marvel doing what he's always done - in this fake outrage generation, a movie not being ~just so~ is a "cause". Fuck you, and fuck off.
So let's ask some questions. So what if a movie was going to have a lesbian flirting scene? Was that required for the movie? No. Would it counterbalance the lack of LGBTQ+ elsewhere in the universe? No. Would it be decried by the virtue-signaling elite as "not enough" even if it were included? Yes! But far be it for a production unit not to force in an element that wouldn't make it any more interesting, and would only serve to placate an insatiable mob of internet bloviators. Nah, not until every niche is accounted for can a movie be "good". What I really mean to say is simple:
Fuck that.
Want your group represented? Send representatives of quality, not facilitators of bureaucratic minutia, and make them the crew, the producers, the cast, the business moguls... you have some of the easiest access to this technology in history, and next to literally NOTHING is stopping you. Nothing, that is, that doesn't stop EVERYONE ELSE, stops most people complaining about FICTION (FICTION, PEOPLE!) from running a studio, ordering props, hiring talent... NOTHING. When a work of fiction isn't the way these entitled people want it (not need), it's "oppression"? No!
Maybe instead of seeking self-affirming degrees at "educational institutions" which these days amount to nothing more than daycare for a society built on standardized "education", and incentivized by grants, look at what your successful creative predecessors did, AND DO THAT. I'm thoroughly sick of seeing people upset that their culture is not represented, and then using the same tools others have used to represent theirs to do nothing but fucking complain about that lack of representation. It's extremely disingenuous, and lazy. And it alienates.
Assuming that literally all the haves have at expense of have nots is your DOWNFALL. A shit-ton of the prevailing system is rigged, and I don't want to downplay any of that, but how many alternative systems are actively attempting to push through the concrete? Show them to me!
The truth is, most of the people complaining aren't doing it because what they want isn't doable. They're upset because other people aren't doing it for them. That's pathetic, and worse, serves to perpetuate the problems they claim they're trying to solve. Why would anyone want someone else in charge of their culture? If it's good enough, it should be able to produce great things on its own, or with minimal external influence. If it's great, it should be able to stand atop the mountain with everyone else who has climbed! Instead, so many make their livings off knocking everyone at a peak down a few pegs, and it's no wonder so many people fail to thrive. When it's profitable to take others down, people will equate fighting real injustice with not liking a movie, or whatever else they can make it about.
Selfishly appearing to be selfless is the new black.

Hey, I'm Oatmeal Joey, and Black Panther mentioned Marxism, genocide, of the colonialists, AKA white people. What about South Africa, would be he question. I wouldn't mind seeing lesbians kissing. But a movie should focus on the plot more so.
