SO! I HEARD ABOUT THIS BRAND NEW PROJECT! while listening to the @cttpodcast
A quick search using the function on PeakD revealed something surprising.. someone had already writted about a little bit about QORTAL .. Shout-out to @adsactly! For being one of the first people to notice, and write about this project on hive.
PeakD's search function has gotten better and better in the short time that I have been around on the platform, and this time I found exactly what I wanted.. even though I wanted to be the first one to write about this new project that I had just found out about thanks to the Community token talkpodcast.
So since I couldnt possibly be the first to write about QORTAL, I figured I'd be the first person to write about what has changed in the last 2 years since the most recent article was published here.
SO WHAT IS QORTAL?
If you havnt realized it by now QORTAL is an evolution of QORA .. Some of you might be familiar with QORA, but I just got onto hive and into crypto in 2020, so I havnt been around as much as some of you have..
One thing is forsure.. QORTAL IS NOT A DOA! [ Sorry for all the Copy/pasting & screenshotting ]
Maby it is because I trust the delegated proof-of-stake system that we have on hive, and that there are so many reward mechanism, that I feel like my vote has a potential value, and in the future it will potentially be even greater thanks to my activity on the chain, rather than my direct contributions, which I might not ever provide anything directly to the network, while the entire time I am providing indirectly just by my use of the DAPPS here, and more importantly by me creating the network effect by selling the idea and bringing new interested to the blockchain which cant be quantified or rewarded directly. (Sorry if im rambling)
The difference between HIVE and QORTAL is that the consensus mechanism only needs 60% approval among a pool of "admins" (Hive requires unanimous consent) as well as having a kind of merit based hierarchy.
--"Anyone is welcome to apply to be CONSIDERED as part of the dev team".. which is cool.. kinda.. because these new applicants MAY eventually be vetted for by the DevTeam Admins and become an Admin themselves."
The admin vetting process
- developer contributes over time, 2) Admins can confidently vet for the developer, 3) Admins submit a summary to the Qortal community as to why the Admins vet for the developer, 4) community votes to approve the decision to make the developer an Admin, 5) Admins conduct a 60% on-chain vote – giving the vetted developer’s Qortal account the Admin permission. This structure allows us to carefully consider the Admin pool and safeguard our project, while the Admin pool grows and becomes more DECENTRALIZED OVER TIME.
Hopefully everyone remains anonymous and stays true to their principles.. because I see some potential attack vectors.
I just downloaded the QORTAL UI https://qortal.org/downloads/ and am going to start working on the next part of this article. thanks for checking it out if you did.. and hopefully QORTAL folks will come do a podcast with hive folks and see what up! @theycallmedan thanks for mentioning this, and giving me a reason to write an article for the first time in a while.
Hit me up in the comments and let me know what you think, and tell me how I can improve in writing if you want.. Im going to start writing about my experience trying to use QORTAL's UI/Destop app
